Why did you use an oil with LSD additive when these trucks have no LSD?

Thanks for the replies Swimmer n Scott! Good to hear that bushing holds up.
To Swimmer... The Owners Manual for my 2008 says rear diff only, requires 90W w/LSD additive.
If that's NOT an LSD, then why does it bind up on low speed tight turns when 4 high is engaged? (for example, when turning or backing into a parking spot).
Is it a full locker in 4WD?
    Please... "Esplane Lucy"!...

The binding is due to the differences in the turning rate of the front and rear wheels. If your truck is a sport it is called LSD, but it's not a torsion type diff, the limited slip is electronically controlled by the brakes.

I believe the passenger side uses a friction type bushing, just like the ECGS bushing. I swear I've read that somewhere, which is even more bizarre as to why Toyota chose the needle bearing route on the drivers side.

I've read the same, forgot to look when we had the passenger side cv out though.

Sorry, since this is the 3rd gen section I assumed you had a 3rd gen.

My truck is a 2008 Sport, and I see the separate brake circuits to each rear drum. On re-read of owners manual, it says "if" you have LSD rear, use LSD fluid... so am I to assume some other models DO have a true LSD, but not the Sports?
And if so, why the speed difference front to rear? Is that caused in transfer case? And why only binding on turns, not backing in straight line?
This is interesting "gearhead" stuff, so I really appreciate your, and everyone else's responses. Thanks!

Hey, "Cartman"! (great character!) You are correct... if Toyota did one bushing, n one bearing, gotta wonder why.
Just a quick reminder guys... the slide hammer pullers and bearing driver kits can usually be "rented" free of charge at the major parts chains. I'd suggest buying the bushing first, then taking it to store n make sure their kit components match up to bushing properly, before u start job.

Hmm, I'm not sure why they have that in the manual unless parts of it cross over from different Toyota vehicles. I was under the impression that all LSD were electronically controlled. Yes the is in the t case because the front wheels spin a bit more while turning than the tears due to scrub radius and all that science lol. The tears take a short cut! This is also why it's important to run the same tire size between front and rear. The binding doesn't happen in an all wheel drive vehicle because their t cases are designed more like a true limited slip diff.

    Aaahh.... very interesting.
There are no controllers of any sort on rear axle, so if LSD is "faked" with braking system, it has to be done at ABS valve level. Pretty common to traction n stability control systems these days.
    Thanks again!

To "1bad2k"... something isnt addi g up here.... you questioned why i put lsd oil in when i didnt have a "true" lsd rear, and stated the "lsd" effect is accomplished with braking...
so if thats the case, you are saying its a sraight up fully mechanical differential.. meaning no clutches or friction material. If so, then regardless of what oil I put in, it should not have created the slipping effect I experienced immediately after the change. Unless the t-case has lsd type clutches? All were changed at same time. ????

I had to pay a fab shop to do mine as I don't have the tools/space/and know-how to do it. It took less than a couple of hours though and they didn't charge me too much to do it either. The needle bearing broke into pieces when they removed it but the bushing went in and fit perfectly though.

I took mine to ECGS to have it done and the guys there said it was warranted for the life of the truck. They told me if I ever had another problem to bring it back in and it was on them.
