So I picked up some Focal component speakers for the front and need to:
    1. Figure out where to mount the crossover that both the woofer and tweeter connect to.
    2. Figure out how to get the wiring from the tweeter in the dash to the crossover. Especially if I mount the crossover in the door.
    Thanks.

    jbl system or standard audio?

standard head unit, or any aftermarket gear to deal with?

I usually put the crossover up under the dash around the kick panel. But it doesn't really matter where you mount it as long as you can get to the connection. Remember your just running 1 line to it . Then from the cross over you run to the tweeter and woofer.

the oem speaker wiring goes from the head unit location to the tweeter, which uses a 4-pin plug on the tweeter(there's a shorting wire in the tweeter-side plug), that then connects the door woofers to the rest of the system.

so there's a few different ways to install the crossovers and add minimal wiring. the crossovers absolutely don't need to be inside the doors, as the dash tweeters are the main junction point in the wiring. but fitting the crossovers beneath the tweeters isn't the easiest task either.

if you grab a set of tweeter adapter harnesses from the likes of tacoʈunes or Amazon for 2 different options.

you can use the adapter harness to connect to the door woofer wiring at the tweeter, while running new wiring for both the door woofer as well as the new tweeter from the crossover location.

you could also cut the crossovers into the output of the power pack in the center stack, using the front output wires to run to the new tweeters, but then cut up the tweeter adapter harness and some short lengths of wiring from the crossover to connect to the door woofers.

either accomplishes the same end result, i don't know that either is more or less labor intensive than the other, the first would cost slightly more for additional wiring, though you're going across the same path for the wiring, so no increase in time, or connections being made.

appreciate it. Got it working this way. Hard getting the crossovers in a nice spot without completely removing the dash but I did the best I could and it’s snug.

OMG!!! I’m in the middle of this right now with my ‘23 QCSB (non-jbl). Gaining any kind of access to the wiring for the dash tweeters in almost impossible. A person needs baby sized hands to even get in to that stuff. I was just going to splice the wire sets of the tweeter to make a continuous circuit to the door speaker, install the crossover, then re-wire from the crossover to the new speakers. Nope. Can’t get my meat cleavers in to the wires. Now I’m making a frankenstein jumper with the included (and useless) oem adapter.

also, need to find a location for the crossovers. They’re about 5x5x1-1/2. Not compact units.

@CaptSourPatch , there’s usually several spots over above the kick panels that you can wire tie to a frame support. And it makes it a little easier if you need to get back to it for an adjustment.

Thanks. The crossover doesn’t provide much in terms of “lashing” points. I think I can fish through the mounting screw holes somehow though.

Most covers pop off or unscrew to give you some way of mounting it and access to your wiring.

mount it on a piece of acrylic that's at least 1/2" larger than the crossover. then you can mount the acrylic however you want with zipties or other options.

While I can appreciate the level of tidiness and craftsmanship in regards to Toyota, I Just gonna say. This has been the worste experience I’ve ever dealt with in regards to replacing speakers in a vehicle. There is absolutely ZERO room for a guy to get his hands into anything, or anywhere. Spent the last day and a half on this and all I’ve accomplished is to tear apart my door and dash and jump the tweeter wires. Other than that, trying to make the install clean has been a battle of frustration that I’m about to toss in the white flag on. Clean is about to go out the window, and DONE is crashing in through the wall!!! I’m over it.

    rant over. Back to “work”

Yeah, but getting my booger hooks in between the door and body was not fun or easy. Literally just put the last piece of trim back and am cleaning up. Don’t ever want to do this again.

    not much room in there.

You did it the easy way, I wrestled my wire through the factory boot and it was a nightmare.

    OOOOOOFFF

NO WAY! You’re crazy! I think I’d either still be fighting the first dooor, or I’d be drunk and passed out on the garage floor.

And to think I did it “the easy way”. HAHAHHAA. That was friggen awful!!

YMMV but on my 2010 I just put the crossovers in the doors and used some butyl rubber to secure.

Re the door, use a long zip tie or something similar to fish the wire through.

a change from 2nd gen to 3rd gen was the tweeter locations. 3rd gen is on top of the dash now instead of the 2nd gen location at the top of the door panel.

so installing in the door would mean running 2 pairs of wire in/out of the door. the feed from the amp, and the output from the crossover to the oem tweeter location. unless one decides to build custom sail panels.

I guess I should also mention I pulled wire from the amp (behind the seat) to the door so I'm not using any of the original speaker wiring.
