front driver and passenger struts making popping noise

I have a 2001 tacoma 4-door and i have a 2.75 spacer in the front with a diff drop. and i just put the billys 5100's on the second to lowest setting and everytime i hit a hard speed bump or the front end goes over a big hump while offroading there is a popping noise that comes from the front struts??? does anyone know what could be happening? wheelers said it would be ok to install the billys on my tacoma witht he spacers....

 

With the 5100s set at 0". You need to double check the that the assembly was done correctly. Also check your swaybar bushings and end links.

 

i think your springs might be bottoming out
also check as yota said^^^^^^^^^^^

 

x2 on the swaybar links. I have had the issue a couple times, just tighten them up and the noise goes away!

 

thanks guys... ill check the sway bar bushings and end links first! could they be worn out? or just loose?
so if the springs are bottoming out should i put them to the bottom setting?

 

i think if you have the 5100/s at ,08 and a 2.75" spacer...you might be compressing the springs too much......
or the shocks topping out as chris mentioned

 

oh ok!!! so would i have to disassemble the coilover or whats the easiest way

 

my solution is always easy. Just buy a new taco

 

i belive all you have to do is lower the 5100's to 0
i think thats what yota told you..
mabye a pro will chime in

look at your springs and see when they compress if the coils start to touch

 

lol yea no kidding! as rough as i am on trucks i thinks its time for it to go!

i looked at my coils and they dont seem to be touching. i have not checked the sway bar bushings or end links. i will check them today!

 

they could be worn out, but check both upper and lower bolts to be sure they are TIGHT first.

 

I had a strut problem, it was making a BANG BANG BANG noise every time my truck moved 5 feet. It turns out one of my struts was broken. (thats what I get for jumping my truck with spacers )

 

Why would you combine a lift strut with a spacer? Take the spacer off, as they are hard on your upper bj's...then leave the billys at the middle setting, or put them at the top. You will experience far better performance from the coilover.
