Front driveshaft balance weights

While I was looking underneath I touched what I thought was a piece of of rust and then what looked like a weight fell off. Is this a balance weight? I noticed there is another part like this (same size) at the other end of the shaft 180 degrees opposite. What can I do about this? Can I stick this back on or get a new weight and afix it on? I see a 6 or 9 stamped on the outside. Thanks

That looks like what’s left of what used to be a weight.

You wouldn’t be the first my friend. Rust is the arch enemy of these trucks.

The front driveshaft doesn't spin unless in 4w drive right? Do they balance each driveshaft separately, meaning front and back? The driveshaft tag says it is a balanced assembly. Is it a matter of me taking the front driveshaft out and taking it to a shop to get it balanced? This is on an '05 btw.

 

I have seen them fall off and never cause an issue.

Take the truck and drive it in high 4X4 and see if you have any vibration. No Vibes = No worries.

The same applies to those little balance weights on the brake drums.
