I was under my truck today and when I got to where the flange yoke meets the front differential (forward most U-Joint 4x4 vehicle) I noticed fluid weeping out. It was definitely gear oil (looked like fresh motor oil) I snapped a picture of the area I'm talking about. It is weeping all the way around, not just by the bolt in the picture. I had wiped off some of the oil before I took the picture, but there wasn't too much extra.

The only other time I've seen fluid in this kind of area is when the pinion seal was leaking in my old rear differential (different vehicle).

All other flange yoke joints were completely dry.

Truck has 1200 miles. Does anybody think this is normal for some reason?

Bump. Nobody ever experienced this in a front diff? Regardless, I'll update the thread when I make it into the dealer someday.

ok thanks, i'll keep an eye on it just to make sure. Seems odd that it would just be that u-joint, but it is definitely a possibility.

I doubt it the u-joint. Yours look bone dry to me just like mine were ... there's no grease near any of the u-joint seals. It it was a u-joint "weeping" grease you would see it coming out where that blue paint is there were the u-joint caps are. When they are greased the paint gets covered by grease... no grease = none lubed u-joint (or not properly lubed u-joint).

That U-joint was full of grease. I took the picture, then hit the U-joint with my grease gun. Grease on first pump. I still find it odd, but not impossible for it to be u-joint related. What keeps me suspicious is the fluid was the color of fresh motor oil.

Hmmm. The fluid color and the way it's stickin doesn't seem like grease but more of an oil. On my next oil change I'll have them check it. I'm at 18k miles and haven't had any issues with 5k of that Offroad. I'm not too worried yet.
