I've heard some say that next time you replace your brakes to not use OEM parts. My truck is a 2015 and it started doing it around 20,000 miles. Guess it just happens at different times for people

Hey OP did you ever figure this out??? my truck has less than 5k on it and on snow packed/cold days my truck just makes the noise all the time front left, sometimes i can even feel the knock under my foot when i start the truck which i thought was really odd. but again this is only on cold days and snow packed roads, which i travel on a fair amount. not going to lie it is kind of loud and annoying.

From most of what I've read on TW, especially when it comes to a brand new(ish) truck, 90% of the time its the LCA (lower control arm) cam bolts. Especially if you've had an alignment done recently; many times the alignment tech doesn't torque those bolts to factory specs (have to use a torque wrench) and it will create a clunking noise when going over bumps, turning, etc. That would be the first thing I would check or have checked. There are 4 total, 2 on each arm.

Also if you've had an aftermarket lift kit put on, check the torque on all the bolts that were involved in the removal and installation of your new lift.

Its fully stock, I had a squeek in the suspension around 1,500 miles in. that noise has gone away, and in warm weather there are no noises to be mentioned. but once it gets below 20 degrees and snow on the road, it just clunks without even hitting bumps at times...

I recently took my truck to toyota, twice. Second time they were able to replicate it on my truck and on a brand new one off the lot..or so they claim. It was late in the day and I didn't have the time to hear it for myself, but they kindly offered. was told it's brake slap and a normal characteristic of the truck....im told toyota has a case on it. Going back in a few weeks for my 25k service and to bug them again.

Yeah I determined mine to be brake slap as well, it's not a bad thing like harmful to the truck but definitely not good either

I've got a similar sound coming out of my front passenger side. I, too, thought it was a suspension issue, but the dealership "couldn't replicate it." It sounds to me like a percolator boiling, or two pieces of metal that aren't bolted firmly together.

Mine has this noise also, passenger side. Last scheduled service the dealer did acknowledge the noise, but could not 'pinpoint' source. Noted on my records from them. Told if it gets worst bring the truck in.

Skimmed through the thread not sure if the OP solved the issue or not. But it can been extremely simple, I've found that the water drain on the windshield gets packed with snow/ice and that will rattle around causing a clunking sound. Only during or after a snow storm driving around and everything gets packed full of slush. Once it gets above freezing everything melts and the sound goes away. Granted this is on my 2nd gen but its probably the same issue.

This can definitely be the cause. A few weeks back I had some strange clunking when turning at low speeds coming from the front end. I was about to arrange a visit to the dealer when the next day it just went away. I can only assume it was ice that got in somewhere and was causing friction.

this has happened to me a few times now where the drain freezes up and a chunk just rattles around. Its right in the foot well so the sound and vibration makes sense. and also it going away when it warms up explains it to. I had it as well where the slush froze on the sliders and started vibrating on the floor boards. If it was a control arm clunking or CV joint you'd feel it in the steering wheel.

Brake slap, clunk call it what you want. The rattle clip is off. Mine came off twice! Take wheel off and look down. You'll see "W" shaped clip out of its hole(s) in the pad. Put it back in and it will stay until you brake really hard. I'm replacing mine with a new clip as it came off today again! Clunk, Slap, muffled rattle. And yes it WILL hurt things as your pad(s) on that side will wear uneven. Let me try to post a picture I found online of this clip - see that clip on top of the caliper? Look at yours - you'll see at least one side out of place.

Hi. Actually I "borrowed" that picture from another (Tundra) thread - maybe, maybe not OEM. The darn things are popping out of place on everyone, though. Also, in the Northeast (Syracuse, NY) ice build up when it's persistently snowing and too cold too melt will cause a clunking sound in the brakes as well . . .

Service dept. told me the same thing.

My clunk is when I pull out or back out of my parking space when I turn the wheel. Clunk will sound before I get to the steering stops.

This is exactly what's going on with my 2017. What is it? I didn't see it anywhere on the thread
