hey everyone my first post. i have a 07 tacoma. recently had some snow fall in ct. i switched my truck into 4 hi to go up a hill in reverse. ever since i have a hum in the front end while in 2wd but if i switch to 4wd the hum goes away? tried reengaging and disengagin in forward and reverse to try to clear the issue? doesnt help. im stumped. i only have 53000 miles i highly doubt its a bearing especially because it goes away in four wheel drive? any suggestion?

From my experience it is the driver side roller bearing. Are you lifted? If 4wd makes the humming go away then more than likely it is the roller bearing in the diff.

X2 bearing is shot, this is a pretty common issue with the 2nd gens lifted or not. I had the same issue as yours and had my driver cv shaft replaced as well as the bearings at about 65,000 miles.
