Hi guys I’m new to Tacoma world and Im a greenhorn when it comes to mechanic work. i have a knocking noise in the front driver side on my 2010 Tacoma 4x4. It don’t knock all the time it well quit and the start back. I really don’t think it’s the cv axel cause it knocks while driving on a straight road. I was hope to get so help from some one more experience than I am when It comes to diagnose vehicle problem.

Oh Lord.. May want to post a video clip or give some more details before these buttholes start in on you. Most are going to say it's the VSV ticking and normal, but you haven't really given much detail.

Ah, I hear it right after that left hand turn. I'm assuming you've already checked the basics, like lug nut torque? I'd start with inspecting all the rotating components, and if nothing obvious like drive shaft play, loose wheel, etc, then put it on a jack and spin/turn those front tires. Does 4wd affect it at all?

4 wd it still knocks. wheel bearing was just replace couple months ago. Center support bearing and u joints as well. The only thing that I have notice is the play of the cv axel going into the diff compare to passenger side. Like if the diff needle bearing is bad. I can post video if needed

Not sure I hear anything. Are you running lift or anything else aftermarket? Is it the sort of tapping or ticking?

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Check the exhaust heat shields around the catalytic converter arent rotted off and banging on the exhaust

When I accelerate the knock accelerates. Would the exhaust heat shield do that?

Heat shield could, anything loose may. Could be the guts of the catalytic converter if it's a rattling. Also check the wheels and brakes, rocks stuck in the calipers, broken return spring.

The spring that retracts the pads when you let off the brakes. I had a front end rattle when mine broke. It was just bouncing around.

That spring that’s keeping pressure against the brake pads?

Just had my brake calipers off the other day and don’t remember see that spring at all. I’ll have to look and see if I even have one on there.

That means it has to do with your brake calipers. Had the same problem on my work truck and it was a sticking/seized caliper piston, though, it was a squealing noise instead of a knocking noise.

If it's knocking it's probably because your brake pads are moving around and hitting your rotor, causing the noise. Most likely a missing spring or pin

Check for anti rattle break pad spring. Neither side Has it order two of them today and hopeful that we’ll fix the problem.
