exactly this. It’s easy to change the fluid out. Just use a turkey baster to take out the old fluid.

Yes. So in other words, idling, foot on brake, but not in park, like at a stop light. Once I put it into park, it stops vibrating. However the steering wheel still goes round & round & round, park or not.

    I'm good with it.
& actually you can add foot off brake cuz I tried it in gear with the parking brake on & it still vibed.

Of course.... It's been a few months since I had it checked. It was the typical O2 sensor code

So I combined my first two posts by copying the second one & pasting it in the first post box. I am wondering if the second one got missed by some. I mean my steering wheel literally goes round & round & round, I mean full 360 rotations, & yet the truck handles great.

I wanna say that 3 full turns is the right amount for lock to lock... don’t quote me though.

So I'm weirding out about that for nothing? Good. Just one of those things that didn't seem right. Instinctual I guess. I think it was cuz there was 0 resistance, as if it could have just kept going & I was in park.
Ok. So if I check it in the a.m. & it turns 4 or 5 that'd be a different story....

Edit - can't recall now if I tried that in park....

Ok. Thank you all. I will grab the turkey baster & ATF, plus brake bleeding stuff & take care of that along with the leaf springs tomorrow.

Yes 3 full turns of the wheel is normal to get the tires to turn completely side to side... and it's also normal to feel a rumble when doing this because the RPMs will slightly go up when you crank the wheel like that. If you hear a whine though coming from the steering when turning it like that then I'd change out the fluid and clean the screen. Should take care of it

The rumble starts right away. It is there when I am idling & increases when I even slightly turn the wheel whilst idling.
To belabor the topic, just so we are clear, these 3 rotations are not lock to lock, if I understand it correctly. My wheels were straight & it rotated three full turns, no resistance.... If you say this is normal, I'll shut up about it.... ;)

I'm fairly certain its normal 3 turns to one side starting from center...but I'll have to confirm with my truck tomorrow morning lol

I can look it up more thoroughly. A quick search caused me think lock to lock was if you started with tires all the way to the left, how many rotations it would take to get you all the way to the right. Thank you....

it's 2.5 turns to the left and 2.5 to the right. total of five turns from lock to lock. i know because i broke my clockspring last year while changing the rack.
sometimes you'll get different noises in park vs drive due to the load change from the trans. you could try jacking up the front so there is no resistance and see if the noise persists. there's more resistance on the power steering system when turning at a stop than while rolling down the road so it might groan at a stop but be fine driving

The thing is that the truck was not doing the rumble prior to changing out the tie rods. The way it seems to go is fixing one thing, which straightens or lifts it back to where it was supposed to be sets off another. Or, I installed something incorrectly. Or, the alignment is off. Just trying to figure out which one it may be. Seems to me that the tie rods where pretty straight forward. Not that I couldn’t have messed something up....

if you changed tie rods yourself then you definately need an alignment. even a little off can cause problems. especially tire wear. it might still handle great but wear out tires in short order. you need an alignment rack to get it right. not sure that would cause your noise issue unless it was way off. might be coincidence. did you do outers only?

Yup. Did that. I believe I listed that in my done stuff at the beginning of this post. I'll double ✔....
    Yup. It's there.

Just thinking out loud...so to speak.
I have RCI skids, the front is really open to the effect of tire spray and mud splash, unlike the OEM front "skid" plate.
I just added some wings using 1/4" ABS plastic sheet as a bit of splash guard.
It is making the same sounds you are talking about, pulled the skid off, no noise... some sort of sympathetic harmonic vibration?

A while back I had a different noise. Same situation, in that it was when I was idling in gear, except it did not increase when I turned the wheel. One of the things I looked at was the skid plate & did find a place that could have been the culprit. I wedged one of those felt anti-floor scratching things used at the base of furniture in the space & it made no dif. Turned out it was the hood. Needed the bump stops raised. However, you have given me food for thought because I have now replaced the tie rods & adding in that stability may have caused the skid plate or even the hood to shift just enough to start a vibe.

Soooo, I started leaking power steering fluid (ATF) from the inner tie rod grommet/bushing clamp. After chatting with my local NAPA dudes, turns out I most likely need a new gear since there are no seals or rather, they are internal
