If we're talking the steering rack, the Napa and other parts stores have inexpensive racks and most times with lifetime warranty. Just understand and expect to have to use that lifetime warranty every year or two.
Or avoid that repeated but inexpensive hassle and replace the steering rack with new OEM. Not cheap, but if installed right, and you don't rank your steering wheel while the tires aren't moving, you should get 20 years out of it

Yes, rack. Thank you. I was going by Haynes. They call it a PS gear assembly. I am thinking the “assembly” refers to the tie rods, etc.

Yup. Blackout was one of the PA forum members to reply to my post looking for input on ATS. I am gonna add a review on TW when I get a chance (soon).

Nice. So was this a custom leaf pack ATS came up with by specifically working with Blackout on them? If so, that makes me much more inclined to look into these. I'll try and do some searching, instead of asking, before someone gives me a dose of my own medicine, SEARCH! :D

No bueno...sorry to hear but yeah it's time for a new rack. Those boots are supposed to keep outside stuff from getting in, not inside stuff from getting out

When I did my inner tie rods over summer, one of my boots had a tear and there was a bunch of dirt on the steering rack shaft on that side. Surprisingly the seal was still good as there was no fluid...at least not yet. I suspect I'm probably on borrowed time with it now though because some of that dirt had to have gotten into the seals

The boot is fine & where it pulls over the rack looks clean. & the inner tie rod didn't have any atf on it. It seems to be coming out around the clamp/bushing? I'm wondering if I'll find it's rusted under the bushing.

Sounds like it's still coming from the seals then...any fluid at all around the tie rod boot is coming from the rack unless it's something other than ATF that somehow ended up there

    Got a pic?

I was going to add this on as an edit, but you got there too fast for short story long me

& it seems to be coming on fast. By that I mean things seemed ok. Well, had the steering noise from this thread, which was curious & needing investigating, however there was no leakage or any other symptoms. Monday night I did a couple of errands & as I left the last one it started whirring/wining & by the time I got back to home base, about 2 miles, it was hurting & had started leaking. Today I could feel some vibing through the floorboards. Just sayin' that while I'm not sure it's this way all the time, if you think it's coming down the pike, might be a good thing to have parts in hand. Look for a deal, maybe a rebate thing.... my 16 cents again....

I'll go see if I can snag a pic.... Might take me a few....

Think that's the problem peakin' out the bottom of the bushing?

I believe he worked for them & had nothing but good to "say". The springs are made by standen. They are out of Canada. ATS makes the shackles & ubolts. I'm not sure about the custom part. Whether that was the spring itself or a package deal. You should give ATS a call & ask for Bob. He's easy to chat with, nothing pushy & he doesn't make you feel like you're wasting his time.

Well that rack bushing has seen better days and probably needs replaced (should do all 3 when you do)... But that does look like ATF around it to me so you could very well have a rack leak going on. Seems like an odd place for it to leak though unless the rack itself is cracked under the bushing maybe?

That's my guess. I just started watching the timmy vid. The how to plus what extras I'll need. Had to stop for a minute cuz I realized that the rack comes with inner tie rods, which I just wasted 130.00 on. Ok. just had to whine a minute....
Yup. Many things on my truck have seen better days. It's been a couple of years of swinging back & forth from proud of myself for tackling something to hall of shame because something has been so neglected.

Yeah unless the fluid came from above somehow, somewhere? That sucks on the tie rod ends. Might be able to sell em here on the forum for something at least.
I'm gonna look into those springs. At least see if they're a good option for the no lift crowd. Thanks for the heads up

Not sure if you did your homework yet, so thought I'd share. I just did a review on ATS & saw on the site that they do custom springs. Also, lift & leveling kits. & if you don't see it on the site, call or email & they'll see what they can do to make it happen....
