Just to add to that - the loading/unloading from when you did the UCA work could have loosened something up on the LCA that presented the issue after your work. That might be the correlation.

Sounds like time to go to the dealer IMO. I've had mine in for suspension related things even with the mods I did, and they were happy to look at it for me.

Looks like I'll loosen/uninstall the UCA and LCA and check for worn parts this weekend. Hopefully I'll have some better updates next week. Thank for the feedback.

I have a similar sound which I suspect may be my LR UCA's. My noise is not very loud but I can also feel it. It only happens when I hit small bumps. I have re-torqued everything a number of times. I have removed the swaybar and replaced the front radiator body mount which did not fix my noise.

One odd thing is that it does not make the sound/clunk when everything is cool. One of my theories is that the exhaust manifold heats up the UCA bushings which then start making the noise.

eta. My truck has 11,000 miles.

What coilovers are you running, and how many miles on them? I have chased down a lot of clunks on my truck unfortunately...

Interesting re:warmed up. Mine is right out of the garage in the morning and it steps downs to the drive way.

New Bilstein 8112's. Everything was installed about 4,000 miles ago. My next step is to remove the coilovers and temporarily run with the stock shocks with spacers and see if the noise is still there.

Mine also makes a popping sound. Only makes the sound when I make a turn(and the truck weight shifts) and when the road changes grade(entrances to buisinesses or driveways). It's coming from the front.

Shit. I think I tossed my stock UCAs. I hope not. But didn't see the box yesterday in my garage. Thought about reinstalling the stock UCA. Crap!

You check for tire rubbing in the wheel well? That sounds just like the symptoms for that one.

How do you like those shocks? I want to upgrade from my OME medium 90021 fronts.
How much lift do they provide and how is the ride on and off-road?

    Thanks

Good thread. I've actually got some noises from my LR UCA's mostly on initial drive off after sitting over night or for several hours. Sometimes a full turn either way.

I really like them. The ride is really good. They are very controlled offroad and I love how they handle the large suspension inputs. The ride on road is also good, you can feel some of the smaller bumps but nothing like the Icon's I had on my last Tacoma. For 3rd gen's the max lift they recommend is 2" which is what I have mine adjusted to.

Has anyone considered that the I.D. of the LR UCA bushing sleeve is slightly bigger than the UCA bolt O.D.? No matter how much you torque the UCA bolt, several thousand pounds will move that UCA.

Sorry to revive. Really hoping you got this one figured out.

I had the same exact setup and issue. Everything fine and then these subtle clunks - under the same circumstances - after installing the SPC UCAs.

Yea, got it sorted out. Since I bought them on Amazon, I was able to return that first set and received a second set from Amazon. Second set went in and zero clunks.

Did you install your UCA bolt front to back or back to front? One thing I recall is when I removed the first set, I had initially installed the UCA back to front. The second set I made sure it was front to back. Not sure if installing the bolt front to back played a difference, but no noise now with the second set.

I think I'm about to take these things off and send them back for another set as well - I've spent way to much time on this thing already.

I re-installed the UCA bolt front to back, the same way it came off. Just curious, did you get the latest version of these?

Yup, those are the ones I have. I say get them swapped out. I'm happy with these SPC UCAs.

Sure enough, I put my stock UCAs back on this weekend and absolutely no clunk.

Shipping them back for a new set this week - hopefully they send me a good set this time. I'll follow up in a couple weeks after I get the new ones on.

Just got a call from SPC. Nice guy and it seems like they run a good quality company. He said they got one other set returned with the same issue - was probably your set - and they will be pulling this latest version off the shelf until they figure out the issue. He confirmed my suspicion that it was actually an issue with the new style "bushings" which on these act a lot like another set of ball joints - and in my case feel like bad ball joints.

Unfortunately they couldn't give me any kind of ETA on when I would get a new set of arms back because they will have to figure out what is wrong with mine first. Sucks for me, but understandable I guess.
