I have a 2000 PreRunner, and I was wondering if it would be possible to do a front end swap to an 01-04 or a 95.5 front end? Just basing it off looks, all I would need is the headlights, grill, filler plates, and a hood. The corner markers and the fenders should be universal, but lmk. Thanks!1996-toyota-tacoma-sr5-v6-4x4s-l1600-2HERO.jpg ds.jpg 2001_toyota_tacoma_2001_toyota_tacoma_img_5062-4-scaled-meyruu-1-18909.jpg

If your current front end looks anything like the first photo, I don't know why you would want to change it. That IMO is the best looking of the bunch. I searched for a photo of your truck in a few of your posts, but didn't see anything. Got any pics?

I agree. The first one is the best looking; I believe that is the '95. The pics are in chronological order. OP has the middle one (or at least one like it). The last pic is the '01-'04 referenced; IMO the worst looking of the three.

I have the front end in the 2nd picture, and I also love the 96 front end. My current front end is falling apart rn haha

The 01-04 front end has been growing on me, but its definitely my least favorite. I think I would like the 95 front end. The more I look at it, the more I like it!

FWIW the 95 has glass sealed beam headlights. PIA to replace. Have to remove grill. I put some aftermarkets that use an H3 bulb. Much easier to replace just the bulb. Sorry, don't have any info on part # but pretty sure I got them from CarId or some such.

I've read into the lights a little bit, and was planning on doing some LEDs off of eBay for now. Thanks for the info!

The chrome looks best for the longest with lowest maintenance...

In 01 they switched to predominantly chrome front end theme...
    or the black piano look...

One of the reasons their resell is so high.....their dazzle really holds up.

In 95 they were on the right track....but deviated to black and rubber for a few years......probably to save money...

That 95 with update headlights would be my choice.....

Me with a 98 will just have to continue to use that 'Menguiars ulitmate black' liberally every other season.

Mines like the second pic, happy with the look though but if I had to buy another I would go for the first one... body/style/overall look it’s my fav too!

Am I the only one who thinks the 95-97 front end is kind of the ugly duckling of the three? I still like my 96, but the 98-00 is my favorite.

Boy not me....I have a 98....and those headlights are oversized bug eye 'ed.
    Looks like a Nissan....

Those 95 smaller headlights have a sleeker look.....although I'd switch to a non glass aftermarket ones...

And the less black on the bumper the better. That shows the age the fastest.

FWIW, I saw a really cool video of a guy using a heat gun, very carefully to restore the black finish to oxidized trim. https://youtu.be/cknW4mrxEp8
