although im sure this post will be moved to lighting, i figured i would post here first. I am looking into replacing the front turn signals/DTRLs with normal amber LEDs or switchback LEDs. I have searched quite a bit and see that the best place to get LEDs with built in resistors would be vLEDS, but i have some questions.

    1. Since i dont have the relay or jumper for DTRL (I have a 2006) I did the mod, does this mean that i can buy a regular LED or switch back and buy an 8 pin flasher (link below) to prevent hyper flash?
    2. or since i have the DTRL mod i need the resistors?
    3. also, does this 8 pin flasher prevent hyper flash from all turn signals (front and back)?

the answer will also determine whether or not i buy the stock jumper and relay for DTRL and eliminate the mod.

the reason i want to switch to LED is because i am buying new headlight housings and dont want them to melt.

If you're going with vLEDS & decide on the Triton system it should take care of the resistor issue for you. Call their number to get the details.
I am going with regular amber 4157 replacement (non-switchback) from vleds as 170 lumens is the brightest i've seen that are ok for DTRL, but will have to install resistors as there's no led friendly flasher available for '12+ with integrated dtrl's. I'm putting the resistors in the rear connected to the regular 3157 tail lights wire, so the resistor load is only on during turn signal function. (If i eventually put a led on the rear turn signal, have to install 2nd resistor on each side....)
If you go this route, for an 06 should be able to find a led friendly flasher - the front/rear turn signal circuits are the same so flasher will take care of it.

My current ones aren't melting, I'm replacing because the lenses are scratched to hell. I'm getting better looking black headlights and I don't want to risk melting the new housings.

So how would you wire a 2005 truck with NO dtrl to make it have dtrl so that you could run the switchbacks?

(making assumption your 2006 is wired in a similar fashion to the later ones...)
the nice thing about the VLED system is the built in resistors inside their control modules are only online when the signal is active. all other times its off. the control box is cool to the touch while in operation. i am very satisfied with the VLED system.

as for the tails, you can use your own resistors there and they will only be active when the signal is on cause thats the only time they are powered anyways.

VLED on passenger side, csjumpers LED on drivers side. massive difference in RL. the VLED are equivalent or a little brighter than stock.
