I do not think that is not true. I specifically told my salesmen not to drill the front bumper holes on my '15 WRX I purchased last year.

Anyways, my Taco has the holes drilled. Thinking of just buying the black OR bumper cap and putting it on my sport. No idea on part # though.

It is true. You have to sign a statement that they are required to install it by law. In 07 was the last time I didn't want it installed, the last 2 vehicles since 14 and 16 they came with it on the car.Its up to them if they let you get away with it.

Not a fan of having holes drilled in my bumper or the look of the front plate bracket. I’m in NJ which requires a plate, bought the truck in PA which doesn’t require one but emailed the salesman and made sure they were not going to drill any holes or install the bracket. Instead decided to make my own bracket to go under the bumper, once I get around to lifting it this will probably get modified a little after the air dam is removed but will see once that happens. For the moment I think it looks decent.

Did you make your bracket in a way that is easily repeatedly without welding? If so, please share.

Its all aluminum bought from either Home Depot or Lowes (they both sell the same stuff). One side of the angle bracket that connects to the truck had to be trimmed so it didn’t contact the painted portion of the bumper, then drilled the center mount hole which is directly in line with the Toyota badge on the grille. If I remember right the two outer holes are 8” outboard from the center hole so total length of the angle I cut to 18” giving me an inch on either side, then I sanded and rounded all the edges. I also elongated the two outer holes slightly to allow a little better slip fit of the bolts and a little wiggle room (I cut the washers off the bolts otherwise there won't be enough thread protrusion). I then cut a piece of aluminum sheetmetal and drilled the 4 license plate bracket holes, reinforced with aluminum straps for rigidity and to stand the plate off slightly because it isn't flat around the plates edge. Once everything was cut I bonded it with JB Weld and clamped it together overnight, after it cured I went back and finished it all with a file/sandpaper and finally paint. Not difficult but will take a couple days to get it all together and onto the truck, not perfect by any stretch but better looking than the stock bracket in my opinion.
