    Hey guys,

Well I got my plates and I'm very reluctant on putting on my front plate :p. I like the look with out it, plain simple. But since I know CA law is a pain, I tried to think of a solution that meets me half way.

I saw the bottom bumper screw clips that seemed like a symmetrical mount to start from. I came up with a simple bracket design that can allow the plate to sit recessed behind the bumper (Quite a gap to work with) and lifted to where only the numbers show. The clips can be replaced with hardware ofcourse...

I'm going to attempt to make something soon to see how it comes out, but what do you think? Legal?

I got pulled over in texas for not having a front ca license plate, as well as a couple times in california. Thye're pretty serious about that.

And not everyone feels comfortable shirking the law like a common criminal for absolutely no good reason. Like to ignore laws.. move to mexico.

yea i got a warning from a CHP about my front licence plate bcuz i didnt hav it on.........i just slap that puppy on the front bumper, the holes were already there so either way i would had to have cover up those holes so i just put it on the bumper......

ive seen some plates on here already that only show the numbers through the lower bumper, gives a cleaner look but may not always be able to see it from different angles, so u might get pulled over but u wont get a ticket hopefully.

let us kno how it turns out

Very creative. Some cops would enjoy the style but others would not. 5200 CVC clearly states a front license plate. You might as well save you time and money and just not put the front plate on. It's a fix it ticket. Slap on the front plate, have a cop sign it off, pay the $25 court fees and your back in action.

Seems like there's an obvious place to mount it -- at the front vertical edge of the skid/splash plate. Does that not work?

i was thinking about just bending the plate 90 degrees just at the top and bottom of the numbers and cutting a few slits to go straight into the bottom grill so that just the numbers show. but i also want to see if that would be considered legal.

Case law dictates it be mounted at the front of the vehicle, in the standard place a police officer would look for one, not require searching to see it, and be clearly visible and legible by an officer standing in front of the vehicle or sitting in a vehicle facing the vehicle.

It really comes down to if it is at too steep an angle to read or not if you are concerned abotu legality.

Your front windsheild is NOT legal. This was established in federal district court a few years ago.

In TEXAS no part of the plate which contains identifying information (including the state name) may be obstructed or partially obstructed.

as others have stated, the whole thing must be visible.

I had a buddy who did something similar to what the op wants to do, actually cut his plate so it was just numbers .... couple years later saw him and the car had new plates, because his was "mangled"

i dont run one on mine, and pay the $25 fix it fee .... they normally write me up for front tint at the same time too.

and no, running it in your window will still get you a ticket, learned this in 04 with my old accord, he got me for that and blacked out tails.

I did that with 2 self tapping screws. I have it just low enough to see it from straight on and it looks good. Hidden yet visible.

I went with the lower Satoshi/recessed front plate. I won't be surprised if/when I get pulled over.
