Back in 1997 I got 3 tickets in california in 1 trip for not having a plate on the front of my california registered car. Each cop was a bigger dick than the last. Last one was screaming at me for it. WTF? "yes sir, I know, i've already been ticketed twice, I'm leaving the state and its in my household goods on a truck I can't get it right now" "so you knew you needed it and you STILL DIDN'T PUT IT ON!!! YOU STUPID BOY!?"
Then I got another in texas on the same car.
Yea, I didn't pay any of them.
Anyone know the statute of limitations on that stuff?

I used panel retainers to fill in those holes the dealer made (easy on a black bumper), then screwed the license plate to my skid plate with self-tapping screws. Doesn't stand out like before yet is still visible looking straight at the front. Sort of hidden yet visible.

You can always do like 20% of californians and 70% of hawaiians. Put your great grandparents nationality or last name air brushed onto a piece of plastic on the front license plate mount and put your license plate on the dash.

Yeah it's required in Colorado. How else they going to identify you when the red light cam snaps your pic? :annoyed:

Fortunately Avid's light bar tabbing leaves perfect space for the plate to show through...

Its the stupidest law ever! Normally cops just say you need a front plate but ill let that slide and just give you a window tint ticket. Douche! Luckly my sisters neighbor is a cop and i give him a 6 pack of guiness to sign it off for me. :)

wah wah wah.. I don't like license plates.

Well I don't like having a christmas tree on my truck.. but they make me put those stupid plastic lights all the way around. I don't use my brakes, and who cares what I signal? Don't run into the truck. Duh. Is he turning right? Maybe I can drive through him? All that wiring and plastic just for pretty lights that don't even match the color of my truck.
and who are the states to say I need to register or inspect my car!
    just sayin.

Whats the big deal about having a front license plate. Its not like its a sexy sports car, its a funny lookin truck. Have you seen your wheel arches?

NY insists on it. Just black plastic up front on my truck so no worries about scraches.

Yes I have a front license plate because CA law requires it, and looking cool is not worth the hassles and headaches, not to mention the waste of time and money dealing with the DMV. Also I love it when people knowingly break the law then complain when they get a ticket. Pick one or the other: obey the law and then you can bitch over a ticket... or break the law and STFU 'cause you made your choice.

Eh.. lesser of several evils. They just don't make em like they used to and make em more expensive to boot.

But seriously.. that wheel well thing? took me 5 years to get over it. I've just had an illogical aversion to Nissan since it was datsun and the best truck, the ranger, doesn't hit it where it counts.. 4 seats that are usable.

I have to have a front plate but find how the dealer just screwed it onto the painted front bumper to be unsatisfactory. The holes are a necessary evil. So, how to mount the plate without scratching the paint so badly? I thought about getting a piece of rubber matting and cutting it to match the plate. Dirt and grime will still get in there and cause some scratches, but without it I think the bottom of the plate would cut a groove in the lower part of the bumper.

Anyone have other solutions (brackets, brilliant ideas) for properly mounting the front plate while minimizing paint damage?

Remember the days of mounting brackets? That's how I got those tickets. I was driving a sexy sports car and it had a mounting bracket mounter UNDER the bumper so no visible holes when removed. CHeap Cheap Cheap... just like new housing.

Yeah, just get a 10-inch section of 1/4-inch fuel line (for motorcycles or the like) and split the length carefully in a straight line, fit it over the lower edge of the license plate then cut/round the ends and edges so it looks as clean as fuel line on a license plate can look. Put some caulking or epoxy in the line before applying (could get messy?) if you want to be sure it stays on. Then just attach the plate with screws as normal. It will still rub the lower bumper section but will not scratch or scrape. Just an idea.

I just put some painted 1" trim on the front bumper. Even fuel line will rub, mine's only going to rub the trim. screwed right through it. Also a bit of protection from touching it to things.

Put the trim on the truck before I got my running boards, had some left over. (parking spots are very narrow here and people are very fat.http://www.autoamenity.com/Body-Molding/Color-Keyed-Body-Side-Molding.htm

A few mods here and there and counting....
I learned my lesson with my prior vehicles of not running a front plate. It doesn't even bother me and i know i won't get ticketed, parked in some locations.
