I was lucky enough to have a dealer that didnt molest my bumper before I bought the truck and put the front license plate bracket on. In TN we do not require a front plate. But I am tossing the idea around of putting one on it. So like everything else on here.. Yall have any pics with and with out the bracket?

I put a hole in my valance and either needed to replace it or put a license plate over it to cover it up. I didn't like the bulky look of the stock license plate bracket so I went with a bracket made by a member here. I personally think it looks cleaner than the stock one because you can only see it from the side.

My state requires a front plate and I still don't put it on. IMO front plates are a sin to a vehicle's design, unless the front bumper was designed to have one. Like so:[IMG]

Happily, my dealer was the same, and I didn't want that bulky thing sticking out.

I am thinking the same thing, except we are required to have it in MO. I guess get pulled over and play dumb the first time?

Same, I would drive around without a front plate if I could, but laws says otherwise. Got pulled over for a fix it ticket in my car as a teenager for not having one.

Thankfully Ohio just passed a law doing away with front license plates, can't wait to remove them!

In Nevada you are only required to have a front plate if the vehicle has holes or a mount in the front.

Luckily, my dealership didn't install the front plate bracket and instead left it inside the truck in a bag with the screws in it, in case I want to install it.

If I ever get pulled over I can say my vehicle was not equipped with a way to attach a front plate and I am good.

    I hate front plates.

"Some" cops will "love" you and your attitude. I actually agree with your opinion about front plates. I also live in a state (Mo.) where they are required. I worked as a civilian employee for 15 years for the Mo St. Hwy Patrol. I asked a lot of officers about this -- most would not go out of their way to pull you over for this offense. Buuuut they can get you pulled over at any time -- it's called "probable cause" , in other words a LEGAL reason to pull you over. What you are doing in this situation, is testing their will power. We all have bad days --even cops -- get one pissed-off officer on a day when say -he just had a argument with his wife or a boss -- they might just take their frustration out on YOU as a law breaker. If you use the response you gave here when explaining "why no plates" to the officer -- you probably can forget getting a warning.
    Good luck --

I find that hard to believe any state would write a law that way? Either they are required or not. You mat want to recheck your state statutes!

An officer also shouldn't throw his personal life into his work life. But that's none of my business.

Not required where I live, but I wouldn’t even consider putting it on. Not on my 2nd Gen either.

Its the law in Texas but from talking to LEOs they usually only pull people over for it during optimum drunk driving times. Gives them a reason to check you.

My state law requires it- I don't have one anyway. Never had any issues.

Cop pulled me over once for speeding- liked my attitude- and just wrote me a warning ticket saying I have to get a front plate mounted. So it actually ended up being a good thing for me.

I didn't read any attitude in that post, but like you are saying, attitude is key when getting pulled over. I have talked my way out of several traffic stops. I was also at one where the folks that I was with talked themselves into a ticket. One person was a defence lawyer, the other was a public defence legal assistant. Their 'knowing better' attitude caused me a lot of work to eventually get the ticket dismissed.

Also, I have a really good win record in court. I was there one time where another person was defending themselves for a front plate violation. The lady had her plate on her dash. She came prepared, testified respectfully, and got her ticket dismissed. Here, the plate just has to be visible from the front and less than 48in off the ground or something like that. I often thought about using the dash trick, but think that it would annoy me for a few reasons. So, forming it to the bumper is my solution until the day I get a car with no holes already drilled or they do away with the requirement.

You are so correct -- but we all know it can and does happen. Actually in all lines of work!
