Here in WI we are supposed to have two plates (oft challenged) The front plate for my Solstice is under the passenger seat. Never had a cop ask about it.

Most likely all you'll get is a "Fix-it Ticket".

Here is what I ask myself as a self check: how often have I crossed a parking lot and noticed anyone else's front plate dish? Have any of them looked good to me, or have any of them looked abysmal?

For me, the answer is no, I don't even notice anyone elses, which tells me that I'm obsessing over nothing.

**With exceptions. If the front plate is bedazzled and/or sitting loose on someone's dash, I notice both of those things, and they look like absolute shit. Basic black however- nah, doesn't add or take away from the car.

Extra points for the dirty look.

Ignoring the DBR1, I have always been a bit envious of Euro decal plates:

It's not a big deal to mount the OEM plate bracket, as there are already two indentations where the bracket would mount, as most states out there require two plates. As someone else said, they have been driving around with only one plate and had no issues. Well, they are on borrowed time, is all I can say. Eventually, they will get a cop who will write them a ticket and they will have to pay it. If your truck did not already come with a bracket on it, they are readily available on Ebay, etc, for less than the dealer would charge, although really, if you bought it from a dealer and your state requires a front plate, the dealer should not only give you a bracket, but also, they should actually put it on for you. Just get the bracket. It is not a big deal and doesn't really look that bad or detract in any way, since everyone else has them too. As someone else said though, do not overtighten the screw as it will strip.

    Some neat stuff there.

Now, I could be completely wrong, but I thought the installation of any moving parts relating to license plates was illegal, esp flippers?

I love the mental gymnastics they did to come up with this statement:

    upload_2020-10-5_13-22-5.jpg

And yeah, they are stupid illegal. Like - get your car seized if a pissed off cop sees it - level of illegal.

Ehh maybe if you told the cop it was for off-roading purposes since we drive Tacomas and not Ferraris he'd be alright with it lol. I don't live in a state with 2 plates so I honestly never thought about the legality of it.

I bet a small blob of RTV silicone in each corner would hold it on and allow for easy removal. Or the 3m two sided tape that is used for the emblems that don’t fall off very easily.

Here in California it’s a cheap fix it ticket. The looks without one outweigh the penalty for me. And I’ve never been pulled over for no front license plate. Usually it’s something they add in after they pull you over for something else.

    Mo too. :(

    Agreed.

I have been pulled over just for no front plate. $25 isn't expensive but the inconvenience of having to mount it anyway, then have an Officer sign off that you did indeed fix it, then sending in the signed ticket with your money, starts to go go beyond inconvenient and approach annoying.

That's what I had too. Drilled two new holes in the plate and mounted it to the holes that were already in the bumper, with rubber washers between the plate and bumper.
