I have been driving with no front plate for over 2 years. Never been pulled over. I lost mine in a river fording accident, so make sure you mount all 4 corners of it! (I only did the top 2 and let it hang down...dumb)

That's how I lost my original front plate, almost, in my avatar pic actually. I had a tinted cover on it, and I'd attached the bracket to the bumper but the plate to the bracket. Water pressure was enough pushing on the bottom to pop the plastic bracket over the screw heads holding it to the bumper (they were slots for vertical adjustment, not holes). And there vanished bracket, plate, and cover, all in one go.

It would be pretty easy to design and fabricate a couple pieces of aluminum flat bar that could mount to the holes in the bumper and then bend at the correct angle to display the plate at an angle that was close to vertical so that it would look good and stop you from getting pulled over. If you want some help with an idea for the design, start a conversation and I can pass along some options to you. A trip to Home Depot and an hour or so of work and you will have something that will work just fine. After designing multiple brackets for the second gen and third gen this one would be easy.

Exactly what happened to me! I still have all 4 screws attached to my bumper, and there was no evidence of breaking, so they must have slipped off too! Science...

I have received several of these tickets in both Denver and Boulder, the only times it happens is when there is a meter maid in one of those advanced prius or jeeps that scan your front and rear plates, if it can't read the front, the maid will jump out and issue a ticket.

I lost mine during that insane wind spell we had early last month or late January. Only had two bolts, and the wind pulled at the plate hard enough to work the nuts loose, apparently. No issues so far. I'll grab a replacement the minute I get hassled about it, but until then...

What sucks is the dmv won't give out a replacement. They stamp out two plates and that's all there is.
If you lose one, you get to register your stuff again and get a whole new set of plates.

Went through this when I loaned a friend my trailer and the plate was lost in the wind. I had just renewed it like a few months prior and had to pay it all over again.

Maybe it was because it was a trailer? The fee to replace lost plates, at least here in Larimer, is currently $8 unless you have specialty plates in which case it's $60. You don't have to re-register and pay the full amount, but yes, you do have to get a new set because they only make matched pairs. @TACO ROCKO

:notsure: I had to pay full price for a new plate, totally different plate too. I hope it's not the case for a passenger vehicle...however I know they only stamp two of each plate.
Maybe they will stamp replacements,....But I would think that would leave the state open for potentially having multiple vehicles...with the same plate, obviously illegal but when does that make a difference :)
How are they to know for sure the plate was just lost, and how do they know somebody didn't just slap it on their boat trailer for the hell of it?

Just to be clear, I'm not saying they stamp replacements. The new set is a different number, and they mark the old one as 'free' so it can be re-used, but they won't give it to you or make replacements so you can keep your number. I was just saying you don't have to pay the full registration costs (cuz $500+ on a new vehicle just to replace a missing plate, when I have proof I registered and the other plate? Fuck you county I'll take the chance on tickets because they'll be cheaper than that until it's time to renew anyway). And of course, trailers might be different - do they actually have registration slips like cars do or do they just give you the plates? Either way you should be in their system, and if you can show proof you're you... well you got screwed and that's BS. :)

I did, they all know me by name too, I'm a contractor for the city and county, still had to pay all over again, new plate, registration, fresh check to them.

They do have registration slips for trailers. The only difference between cars and trailers is that trailers don't have to pass emissions. I don't know, I'll wait and see if @TACO ROCKO has to pony up for a new set.

That sounds a lot more easy to stomach than getting abused for a whole new registration fee.

    Hmmm. But a worrisome ripost.

They'll have to catch me first. I'm gonna give all 3.4 liters hell, and leave 'em in the dust.

That was plan A. but after 3 citations i had to start the thread. All at the university. But i don't park there anymore because they built a very expensive stadium to let almost grown men chase a ball up and down a rectangle and lost 70% of parking $pots. Out of principle, my wife and i would rather walk several miles than pay for a permit.

Dang, that’s no good. Life on the west slope is significantly less stressful.
