Got a question: Is it against the law to drive without a front license plate?

I have a novelty plate on my taco, and have never got a ticket or have been told anything by the police. I want to take it off cause i am installing my billet grill.

    any takes on this?

On my 70 bug I dont run my front license plate or turn signals, over 7 years I have had 3 tickets all for illegal exast [it's loud] $25 ticket. Each time the officer walked around the front of my car and looked, but not once was anything said. Not sure why. My truck on the other hand is all legal, I kind of don't have the balls to do it on my truck. It's definitely required by law in VA.

Most states don't require front plates, but some do.
If you were issued one by the DMV, then you probably are required.
I have been pulled over in Idaho and in Washington for not having a front plate.

If you have a novelty plate on the front, it won't stand out as much as if it were missing altogether.

Very smart man. While I doubt I would ever write the ticket for it, not having one is enough probable cause to pull you over and look for something else, like warrants, DUI, etc.

I don't even have a holder on the front, so no I don't have one. I drive in MD and VA all the time and I have never been pulled over. If they want to pull you over they will find a reason.

Since you are in Cali don't try to go to LAX without a front plate, you will be turned away.

    Uh, that's not quite right.
Mass. requires two Red Text on White Background Reflective plates.
    One front, one rear........
........UNLESS you were fortunate enough to have been issued a SINGLE "Green on White" Plate, Years Ago.
If the Green on White plate is in good condition, AND Reflective, so the Cops and Camera's can read it,
You May still use it on the Rear of the Vehicle with none on the front.

You can also Register a set of old plates that match the year of an antique vehicle.
As long as the Plate Number in not Registered to a current plate.
Not sure if you can get away with just one (on the back)

exactly what everyone's said...i literally just got pulled over about 2 hours ago because of my tinted tail lights. theyre not illegal, but apparently my Nightshades were too dark for the legal limit. what caused it? a loud exhaust and a sound system booming im guessing...

YEP, LA County will give you a parking ticket for no front plate and LAX will get you in 60 seconds. I had a Mercedes and didn't want to drill the bumper. I got 2 tix instantly. But it hasn't convinced me to put the plate on my Taco yet.
