I got one ticket through a checkpoint for no front plate in Montclair. I keep it on now just so they don’t have a reason to hassle me.

I have been front plateless for almost 30 years.
Been cited twice, both when I was under 21 and doing stupid kid shit (that I probably should have been ticketed for) but got equipment cites instead.
I figure it is a loss leader. If a cop is hellbent on giving me a ticket, I would rather have an equipment one then a moving violation.

    New vehicle purchase checklist.
    1. Remove front plate (if so equipped)
    2. Get windows tinted (if not already done).

The stealership tried to drill in the front plate holder when I got the taco. I told them I’d do it, but almost 5 years in, I still haven’t.

The wife’s durango, same deal. No front plate.

I drove around in My 98 Civic for about 10+ years without a front license plate because it was broken off, I never got a ticket even after being pulled over twice for no seat belt. I want to take the ugly looking license plate holder off of My Taco, but have been hesitant.

I got popped for no front plate in Sierra Madre, CA several years ago (Los Angeles County). Was a fix-it ticket

It's still amazing that some states require it, while others don't. Then if you're from a state that doesn't require it, and drive into one that does, they can't bust you for that, right? I just don't get why they still require it. Maybe it's just for ticket revenue...

Why remove it. Part of the ownership responsibility.

don't talk to law enforcement for the same reason you don't talk to bangers. avoid organized crime. the less reasons to get pulled over the less chances you'll get fleeced in this 'freedom' land.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
And a license plate light (or any other light) out. This is called "probable cause" in police talk.
If you happen to be seen by any cop who is having a bad day, and that cop feels like pulling you over --you are fair game for them

    Correct.
States that don't require a front plate typically don't even issue two of them.
Motor vehicle equipment laws typically are not enforced on out of state visitors.

I could drive a late model car with a blower sticking through the hood, no emissions equipment, no front plate and limo tint all the way around in CA if I was an AZ resident and had AZ plates on it.

If I had CA plates on it there is a pretty good shot it would get impounded.

I once got pulled over years ago for no license plate, actually it was my wife. I was on call for work and had to stay behind for a family function out of town. She took my car and got pulled over because she was probably driving a stick shift horrible and the cop needed a reason to pull her over to see if she was on drugs or something. I was in the dog house for not having the front license plate on. No ticket issued, just verbal warning

It's easier to just put on the plate. In last 10 years I got pull over once for don't have the plate, and second time my plate on the dash by the windshield and got my car searched. I didn't got any ticket or warning, but they used this to search my car etc. It's much trouble.
