I am not a hardcore guy but I definitely get myself in some pucker situations at times. Arizona rocky loose. Everything from moderate to harder trails but nothing extreme. I have not needed a front locker yet but have been winched out plenty. but that’s the point, I’m only considering because I’m regearing.

I had an ARB front locker installed at the same time I had 4.88 gears installed. Had a front locker on two previous rigs so I knew the benefits of having one. Don’t use it a whole lot but it’s nice to have when needed and have had no problems with mine on my 17 Tacoma. They also help out in icy/snowy conditions especially when taking off and going up a steep slick hill. Also wheel mine a decent amount on the west coast and we just got back from another Moab trip and really glad I have it. Seen lots of others on the trails with them also and the only people who I’ve seen have problems with them are the ones who don’t know when and when not to use it. Its not something you want to keep locked up for awhile on the trail like you might with a rear locker. Just lock it to get you out of the situation your in and then unlock it. But if you don’t wheel or live in a wintery weather area then yes, it’s not something you need and would be better off spending the money elsewhere on your rig. And moving up to 5.29 gears isn’t a bad idea if your adding armor and moving up in tire size. If I could do it over I would have gone with 5.29 gears instead.

Appreciate it man. I’ve considered the 5.29s and that’s still on the plate at the moment. I probably should since the build will never be complete and I’ll go up in tire size again and add more and more shit. Lol

Well thanks everybody for the input. I’m gonna go ahead and do it I think. Now I just need to decide on ARB or Eaton.

I ordered the pre-built units from ECGS. Extremely satasfied with the purchase. Ever considered going that route? Also, for the speedo calibration, the re-gear shouldn't mess with the speed. Tire size does, and that's corrected by the speedo calibrator, but don't bother programing the gear size because that will throw everything off.

I have a locker in the rear and a 10K winch, what I can't drive over I can drag the truck over it. Front locker is not necessary, nice to have one, but not needed.

Get the locker if you can afford it. Just don't beat on it. Get a winch and use it if you're in a tough spot. Simple

A properly set up diff won't have an issue. The casings are are strong and I haven't heard of any cracking. The load on the front diff with a locker engaged can cause the weakest point to fail yes, weakest point being a CV axle.

To me a winch is to get unstuck versus the front locker being to not get stuck. Two different things. It's probably a rare occasion that you might require a front locker but in many cases locking the diffs before absolutely needed may put less strain on the truck and the terrain, which is great. I'd rather have the ability to slowly get over obstacles than having to rely on more speed to do it.

I'm gonna say it, ARB is not the best. Those lockers have seal issues. Yes, they are the strongest. An elocker is better to the fact that it has zero seal issues.
