Lockers force equal traction to both wheels. A front locker or any locker for that matter would IMO trump the CRAWL feature. I would imagine that if you locked both F/R the CRAWL would be superseded.

Hmm do you think if I leave the front locker off I’d be able to use the crawl control as intended?

Well...yes! No offense, I'm not sure there's a complete understanding of how lockers work here. F/R lockers would would aide in more traction than any electronic 4-wheel drive system...including CRAWL.

Do Tacos have a center diff lock? If so, then adding the front locker would triple lock the truck in the same way as my 80 series , which effectively delivers the same power to each wheel no matter the situation.

The crawl control would still be there, but the sensors won't pick up slippage since there won't be any. Crawl control won't interfere with lockers, it just won't really do anything.

I don't know why you'd add a front locker if you have crawl control, unless you're doing a ridiculous build and planning on doing some really rough rock crawling or something. Crawl control isn't perfect, but I'd strongly suggest you try it and see if it is enough for you before dropping $500 on a compressor and $1500 on a front locker.

Thanks! I know that F/R lockers beat out crawl control. It’s more of not regretting getting the OR instead of the sport because basically that’s the difference and the hood scoop.

It’s going to be a future MOD way down the road. I’m going to get the arb dual compressor and when I regear it I’ll have them incorporate the front lockers since it won’t be much to do it.

Don't regret the OR...the rear locker trumps a scoop any day and twice on Sunday! Factory lockers are better in most cases and under warranty.

I'm not surprised it's different and fully get why. But like I said not what I'm used to and didn't feel like adjusting to it.

So front locker is not a good idea because of weak CV's? Whats the verdict on this front locker i will be ordering soon and dont want to spend all that $$$ on a front locker if its just going to brake shit up front!

as long as you're unlocked it will perform as if no locker is fitted. So yes you can still use crawl.
You could probably use it locked too but it won't really lock as it won't sense any wheel spin because both wheels are moving together. And if it tries to lock a wheel I wouldn't want it to be a battle of brakes vs locker...you'll likely just break a CV.

But for your concern if you keep everything open you can still use crawl. I think the computer would override the rear diff lock if you tried to use crawl with it locked. So just do the same on your part for the front.

a locker will get you better traction.
it will put extra strain on the CVs while locked which may result in quicker wear on CVs or possible breakage.

But benefit of the locker if you break a CV on trail you just stay locked and keep front drive.

If you really see yourself being in the situation to need a front locker then by all means go for it.

IMO having a front locker is better than not. As with any IFS vehicle, the CV will be the weak point.

Colorado ZR2 has F/R lockers, which is pretty bad ass. Looks like you have a Sport. Having F/R lockers on that truck would also be bad ass!

I made sure I test drove both the manual and auto as well. The manual shifter is 3 or so inches further forward than the auto shifter. That distance was the difference in making the stick uncomfortable for me. I damaged my right shoulder and collarbone 20 years back in a motorcycle accident and reaching for first and third felt like I had to sit forward in the seat to shift. Add in a clutch that felt archaic I was confused. It felt like driving a 50 year old 5 ton truck. Add in the top end rush of the motor I couldn’t figure out if I wanted to lug it or drive I like a sports car. Maybe in time I would grow to love it or find a seat position that made the shifter location feel better. But I wasn’t going to take the risk.

I STRONGLY suggest everyone test drive BOTH. Who wants to buy one or the other and hate it and spend years thinking you should have bought the other. In my case I might have bought the auto and listened to the negativity of the auto on TW and started hating it for no reason. When in actuality the stick wasn’t going to work for me anyway. Do your research. Test drive anything and everything you think may work for you and then make your decision with ALL of the information you have gathered.

I just want to be done.
Awesome I definitely got the information I wanted! Once again this forum is helping me make a beast. (Yeah Im going to be crawling. Yeah its going to be my daily) But Ill probably get the lockers in the next few months. Maybe if they come out with the 4.56 ratio so I can keep running my 33s.

There is no center diff, just a solid transfer case for “true 4wd” whenever 4hi or 4lo is selected. In other words, the center is always “locked” with the option to lock the rear as well in the TRD OR.

So does that equate to a 50/50 power split between F/R axles once 4hi/low is engaged?
