hmm.. I have the day off tomorrow, might go find a trail to ride.. theres a few around.. just dont want to damage the truck before it's first servicing... snow is on the ground.. and supposed to get 3-6 inches.. not scarey, but snow hides things...

Nah, not at all opposed! Just not necessarily needed (opinion) ... I will still get one myself.....just LAST...after everything is done..... I will be installing my rear Harrop locker in March with 4.88's (this is when I should put in the front locker......but I'm not...gonna wait...wah,wah), and I already have the ARB high output compressor set-up...just want the best locker and that is Harrop! Nothing wrong with ARB locker....but the Harrop is waaaaaaaaaay worth the extra dough!

    YES! +1 on this!

    As of right now.....

I have no lift yet.....but RCI skids-Avid Offroad sliders-front and rear breather kits-ARB compressor in rear cubby-exhaust re-route, 32" Falken Wildpeaks- TPAM set-up with full comm and now put my order in on the redesigned Demello front bumper! Awwwwwwwwwwe yeeeeeaaaaaaaa! Harrop rear locker going in in March with 4.88's...then rear bumper, Kings 3.0 in fall of 2019 (settlement coming in) with either a Drifter or GFC...or RTT set-up...havent decided yet...but I got TW to help me spend my money! HA!

I got a feeling you are going to do what you want! That's good thing....in the end I always remember....1 is none, 2 is 1! So regardless of what all my friends tell me, I WILL HAVE A FONT LOCKER! Just not any time soon, I have wheeled the fuck out of my Taco and realized I dont "need" one....I NEED TWO!!...cause 2 is 1!

    Im out!

@Carter'sTaco or anyone why is the Harrop way better? Reliability? Engagement time? Strength? Does the Harrop replace the needle bearing? If it fails while open does it stay open? If it fails locked does it stay locked. If it fails locked is there a way to unlock it?

I’ve had good experiences with arb after getting the airlines leak free on my 70 series. They were always faster to engage than the e lockers on my 80 series. I understand the mechanism is different than the Toyota e-locker is it an improvement?

Harrops Strength and reliability is good. If it fails it will always be an open diff just like the Arb
The reason I went with arb over the Harrop lockers is they take an 1/8 to 1/4 turn of the tires to engage and disengage. If you have to reverse they disengage then reengage and that takes about a 1/4 turn of the tires.
And I wanted onboard air anyway

I guess "better" is all opinion. No noise, what seems to be quicker initiation of the locker, dont have to have an compressor running, no lines to fail, NO NOISE! ha! In the end I heard ARB was having issues with quality control lately and you can find this online as of now. Their recent product quality is questionable. The disengagement of the locker in reverse would be my only gripes about the Harrop. In the end I don't think you will be disappointed with either! As in life nothing is guaranteed! Hell I have a buddy who owns a 2017 Taco and has NO TSB's or recalls, drives like a dream right off the lot, my 2018......demons! Ha! Go figure!

hey @state48overland why did and are you guys go with the Harrops?

know a few guys with arb setups, never heard of them having any issues with seals and airlines and I can guarantee you it gets a lot colder up here than where your from.

Grease your spring pads. use good boat trailer axle grease and they'll be quiet. mine have never made a peep.

if it's still squeaky after you do the pads, you need to do the end bushings too, and make sure everything is tight.

Simplicity the simple answer. Both are great products and will cost about the same once you buy everything needed for the ARB set up. Quiet operation.
After owning ARBs on an FJ40 and my FJ Cruiser, I wanted simplicity for the Taco.
No oil in the air lines, no seals failing in the carrier or gears chewing up anything, blown lines never an issue for me, but eventually the manifold leaked, solenoid had to be replaced, engine heat and dry rot, lucky the compressor never failed either. Thumbs up for quick engagement, but I knew before I entered a hairy obstacle to engage ahead of time so Harrop engagement lag never an issue for me. 2 wires on the Harrop. No power, no engagement so you're not locked permanently, magnetic ring disengages, days of old(8 years back), Eaton quality bad, now not the case. I do believe ARB carriers are stronger overall. Any air leaks in multiple areas of an ARB set up, no engagement of locker.

Agree 100%! Not everyone will have issues! To make it clear....I LOVE ARB! I rock a lot of their shit! Top notch! I take what I read with a grain of salt...just read on some sites about some current batch issues and what not...again not saying its 100% true....just as with Taco's themselves....no 2 are the same and one guy may have many issues and the other none. Cold, Hot, north, south...shit happens...the less shit to fail, usually means less failure. I know A LOT of guys with ARB set ups and they all love it! That being said, I have seen some issues personally but that is not why Im not putting one in. We all know ANYONE would be tickled pink to have either one!

It's not the springs, it's the bushings at the shackles .

As soon as they get a little dirty they make noise.

You'll always hear the bad before the good.

People don't often enjoy giving credit when do but love to complain when the smallest thing happens.

I am on my third suspension set on the truck, soon to be fourth. Shoudl have went with what i wanted from teh start, broke my own rules.

TRD sport suspension - meh its alright in stock form and on the pavement
IRonman Foamcell pros and leaf pack - Way to stiff of shocks, they supported the weight but the valving is not right, my truck felt like it was shaking to pieces.
OME BP-51's & OME HD with Two AAL - the shocks, I actually quite like, i am not getting the 3 " lift out of them with the preload jacked up to where it should be (as per ARB tech dept), and the OME leaf pack is pure junk, mine with the two AAL's were rated at over 800lbs constatn. With 400 on the truck constant they flattened out. Threw the drifter on the inverted, they are suppose to be able to hold over 800bs constant and maintain the lift

Moving onto Kings, and custom set of Deavers. Can;t wait to install in a few weeks as I am riding around on my bump stops.

Speaking of which if anyone wants BP-51's drop me a line. I have 6 rear shocks (don;t ask, two brand new, one set used without rock guards they fell off in 20 mins and the ones on my truck which have been on for 3 months), and two front shocks. They'll be available around mid Dec, when they are pulled off the truck.

They spent tons of money on there tacoma and left just the rear elocker with an open diff up front . They also stayed with 33s . A pretty good idea of what the pro's think is ideal although I do not agree with the bad approach angle bumper. Also note that crazy overkill suspensions not required for exploring . More tuned to your weight . Less about wheelhouse candy external bypass rebuild every 3 year shocks.

Unless you plan exploring backroads at 50mph loaded down with gear.
