I'm going to use this really as a (dare I say) "beater." I want to rough it up on the trails but still run around town with it ... but I have another car that I will drive primarily.

That said, I wanted to get an older one (price)...so I was thinking a 05-08 TRD OR. Ideally, I'd get an 09+ OR with ATRAC :D But those are selling for above my price range. I think I might just get a 05-08 OR or Sport...if I get a Sport, I'll probably add an ARB front locker...

I understand! The new Tacos are great... but cost about the same as a house payment! The Off Road '05-'08 has the rear locker... so just add a front ARB if you are into serious climbing (it does good with just the rear locker, however). The Sport '05-'08 does NOT have a locker, only a limited slip in the rear differential... plus that fake hood scoop I think is so rediculous to have on a pick-up truck:rolleyes:!

Good luck in your choice... If a access or double cab, look for ones that had the rear spring TSB performed (4 leafs vs. 3)... My '05 bottomed out with any cargo going over speed bumps or pot holes.

You dont want fake lockers (aka ATRAC) so get truck for as low as possible and money saved put into lockers. They will work better then ATRAC and you won't have to deal with expensive parts or dealer visits to fix it. :D

If you want a streetable weekend warrior truck, why not get a used first gen OR and put the thousands you would save towards armor, suspension, tires and a winch. That truck would be smaller and easier to navigate on the trails. (let's not start a 1st v second generation battle)

Just my 2 cents since you have a DD already.

What captainfun said. If it's a second vehicle destined for hard usage, start with an older vehicle and mod it up the way you want as you go.

Turbo? Sounds like a sweet nickname lol. Well some of the people on the interwebs probably think typing slowly will make their point more clear. Don't worry BRO I have a locker in my truck and I know how to use it :D
