A lot when you're rawling down trails. Slow driving, locked rear. Much easier to turn. Less strain on 4x4 system. Also works good if you have a "lunch box" type locker in the front. Disengage front diff to turn when in 4x4.

I drove with FWD for a good two weeks while I had my driveshaft at a machine shop. It's not fun.

I’d be interested but it looks like the transfer case shifter moves location with these?

No rear driveshaft and the transfer case in 4HI. Had it like that for a while because my rear driveshaft was in the machine shop.

Not too different from standard RWD but the truck handled differently and braked differently.

Interesting piece of equipment. I never even thought of such a thing. Does it just bolt right on and you're done or what's the install like?

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Nah you have to remove a ball bearing that acts as a detent from the case before you can actuated the levers separately. Simple job but the case has to come off.

"Q: What’s involved in the modification to the transfer case?
A: You must drain and remove the transfer case from the vehicle. Once removed, the modification takes at most 45 minutes. You must remove the Interlock Pin. This pin keeps the 2 shift rails from sliding independently and engaging two-wheel drive, low range. It requires only a couple wrenches, hammer, and a small punch. The procedure is described in the detailed instructions."

    "steange1 (Submitted on 16th May 2015)

This is a very well built shifter, and installs into a Tacoma easily. I had to grind the shift rail with it in the case because to remove the rail would mean a complete disassembly of the case. No big deal, but the instructions were a bit unclear."

FYI it's an irreversible mod. I have one and it requires cutting/grinding off a piece of the shift rails. More than just removing the "pill" piece at the back. I enjoy mine for when I want lower gears but still enjoy a tight turning radius because 2wd.
