It looks just as ok as Smittybilt, or almost any other. Just go for it

I've got their hitch point, it's just a solid hunk of steel so it'd be pretty hard to screw that up. Used it a couple times, works as expected. I don't have the rhino strap tho I have an ARB.

That's what I was thinking of doing, too. Appreciate all the feedback!

One thing to note is on the 3rd gen, the off road editions have a heavier duty passenger side front tow hook. I would hope there is some sort of rating for that part vs the SR5 which a basic tie down for shipping. Does anyone have info on the off road hook?

I do not have a rating, but the consensus is that it is not to be trusted. I have seen several posts about it bending, have not heard of it breaking. Using the Mobtown setup myself.

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
I use the short ARB tree saver as a bridle between the TRD recovery hook and the tie down loop.

is there any play forward / backward in them before bolting on? Just one bolt each?

it's a shame they didnt make it like shown, much stronger

As far as play goes. Not really. The bolt hole is elongated, but there wasn't any play when I installed them. I was surprised with just 1 bolt. you have to remove the factory "toe" hook to install the pass side. Those bolts were about 1/4" longer. So I used those to install the brackets. The 2 "arms" on the bottom of the bracket do actually hook into the main part of the bracket. I agree that larger "hooks" would be better. But I think they'll work for the few times a year i go out. thanks. assuming they are good welds, it's a great design. Takes the some of the shear force out of the bolt and puts it in the bent plate. the tabs hooking into the main bracket is good.

I want a set, but dont need them due to the mobtown hidden hitch

For your awareness, I believe it's been previously confirmed the company for the Demon Hooks stated they are for aesthetic use, not recovery.

That's odd. Maybe they did that to avoid any liability?

My thoughts as well. However, there are other makers of replacement recovery points that do list them as such.

I still think it's a good design, using more than just the bolts as the shear strength. AMI didnt execute it properly though, with partial welds, not wrapping the ears all the way around, and only using one bolt.

If I had a welder I'd make an improved version, just for something to do. Maybe I'll do the fab work and get it welded
