I have a doublecab Taco and the rear seatbelts retract just fine. However both the front seatbelts(passenger side is considerably slower) are slow to retract and quite often get stuck in the door jamb by myself or passengers when not paying attention or in a hurry to get out. Any advice on what could be done to speed them back up to factory? Thanks!

I think this is a pretty well-known issue. Mine do it, I've just been living with it. But I'm sure there are plenty of threads on it

YouTube has a bunch of videos. The belt is dirty. It gets slightly thicker and stiffer because of this and causes it to retract poorly. Mainly you clean the belt and the problem is solved but it takes soaking it in a soapy bucket so it's a bit of a pain

i assume you have to fully remove the whole thing from the rig to do this :notsure:
my belt has been a very limpy richard and its been like this since most likely the mid 2000s or earlier, i forget when it started limping anymore
@jammer what do you think about this method?

i think my belts are 'clean' but may likely be microscopically 'dirty'

maybe use Nut-Z lube instead of WD40 on mechanical gears for longer lasting lube?

It's not generally the belts, it's the mech.

Does the belt seem to get stuck/folded in the shoulder guide?

Not really, it’s just super super slow to retract so I have to give it a few pulls on the way back in.

Mine did the same thing.....not sure if it was dirt but mine seemed like the belt fabric got "stiff". I bit the bullet and bought 2 new front assemblies. That fixed it for good.

    Tasteful modifications :)
I’ve tried a few different fixes for this. First is Velcro on the side of your seats, as well as the lower part of the seatbelt.

I haven’t tried this yet, but I had an idea of using a piece of elastic attached to both the belt and the side of the seat with a bolt/tied somewhere, and when you let go of your seatbelt, the elastic will bring it so that it doesn’t fall into the door, but when you want to put your seatbelt back on, the elastic allows for it to be pulled so that you can do so.

the Velcro doesn’t work very well but I see other people do it well. The issue I experienced with the Velcro was the stickyness of it (need a hairdryer or a heat gun to heat it before applying) and how it doesn’t give much wiggle room. I actually ended up pulling the Velcro off both sides of my Tacoma because I didn’t take into consideration how you can adjust the angle of your seats as well as how far up they are.

In my opinion I feel although the elastic is a good option, and I’m going to make a write up explaining how to do this once I get back home from being in Latin America. Should have the post up in around 4 months or so.

    goodluck :)

maybe i will try cleaning the shoulder guide with qTip and see if it helps!
just use some stoner glass cleaner or something stronger?

Yes, totally agree! Trust me.......from experience.
I just replaced my drivers side with a new seat belt assembly from Camelback Toyota Parts and it's tight as a drum now!

the 'expensive' part i am seeing is the installation of the new part :bananadead:
had a pro quote once but have forgotten what it was ex-part

my frustrations of limp belt have been going on for probably 15 years now since i started wearing it most all of the time
