Have any of you installed D rings on the front of your 3rd gen TRD sport?

I’ve seen a couple of TRDs with the air dam modified to fit the rings as the air dam seems to be in the way.

I’m not really going for athletics just practical recovery tools. Was thinking of just carrying soft shackles and a food tow strap.

Share pics and ideas if you can.

A lot of people will say that most shackles aren’t rated to pull/recover. There’s a few options like the arb one that bolts to the frame. I do have a cheap Amazon bracket with a moose knuckle shackle that is more of a tie down point.IMG_0485.jpg

Low speed towing on flat ground ... the factory hooks are good for that.

To have a real recovery hook, get the ARB one. It is actually reated to take a load and is also designed to fall down and away in a front crash so the frame is not twisted.

I believe the nipple rings (shackles) come included with the raptor light kit bundle.

Me not likey that look... :notsure:

I prefer soft shackles for recovery anyway, but I certainly would not leave those dangling either.

The correct phrase is "nipple rings", correct?

First of all, if you plan to go off road where recovery may be necessary, remove the air dam and throw it in the trash.

The TRD OR has a forged recovery hook bolted to the right side of the front crossmember. You can buy the same OEM hook or an aftermarket one that bolts to the same place, e.g. https://www.bpfabricating.com/products/bpf-2005-2023-hd-tacoma-recovery-tow-hook-passenger-side

It's better to keep the shackle in the recovery toolbag, so it doesn't move and wear out the paint/powdercoat in the eyelet. You need to remove the shackle anyway to connect a rope.
