So im trying to replace my front original shocks and the top nut is rusted all to shit. I've hit it with pb blaster and a torch (lightly) but I cannot bust it loose. The main problem is that the shock keeps spinning and I've stripped the top stem where a wrench would hold it. Any ideas how I can keep the shock from spinning now that I cannot wrench the top stem?

Maybe try some vise grips or locking pliers to keep the shock from spinning. :notsure:

Dont know if there is a boot on your current shocks but if you're tossing them maybe try to lock vice grips on the shaft between the coil spring?
An impact gun helps a lot too.

I will try the vice grips on the shaft idea.

Or a cutting wheel on a grinder. Just make sure the spring is properly compressed and secure.

I had to use a cutting wheel on one of my rears. A sawzall works too

Yup, just cut it off. Dremel and a cutting blade also works, thats what I had to do.

Your old shocks are garbage anyway.

How are you compressing the spring? If you are using the jack method, just go really SLOW when you let it down, and try to keep body parts out of the way just in case.

Also, youre gonna find out if your alignment cams are seized. If youre lucky and theyre not, grease them up to keep them that way.
