My wife said her front speakers stopped working this afternoon. Anyone else experience this? I didn't have time to take a look yet. I'll check it out after work, I'm a night crawler.

Tried a quick search and didn't pull up anything. It's probably something simple.

It went away on Friday and worked all weekend. Now it's back on Monday. Guess we will schedule an appointment for the dealer. I couldn't replicate the issue when I went in and looked at it.

Click audio button, select a source, find the audio settings botton I believe in the bottom right? Check if the audio fade is set to rear speakers or not.

Maybe the truck is doing this on its own, or your wife accidentally set the fade to rear speakers only.

This is important: IF you have the setting on the head unit that sets presets for the driver automatically based on who's cell phone is connected. In this case the problem occurs when your wife is in the truck alone IE her phone connects to the head unit and the head unit defaults to her audio preferences.

Yet when you get in and your phone connects, the head unit defaults to YOUR audio preferences.

Hopefully this makes sense, this is the only thing I can think of. Please let me know if you need clarification. Hopefully you don't have to waste time driving to the dealership

I get what you are saying, but nothing has been changed, she hasn't gone into the settings, and it worked fine Friday when she got home and I took a look at it, she actually freaked out, as soon as I hopped in and turned the FM stations on, it worked fine. We both had our phones connected at different times on Saturday and it still worked. First thing Monday it took a shit again. Very odd.

But I will check it anyway. We work opposite schedules so I will fuck with it on Friday while I am off.

As I said aside from Toyota having a faulty product (most likely a one off) that's the only reason I could think of. Hopefully you can duplicate the issue when it's at a dealership.

Just a thought, maybe the next time it happens take a detailed video of the problem and show the sound settings in the video with your wife's phone and your phone connected if you are able to. Take there phone to each speaker so they can hear the lack of audio from the front to the rear.

That's what I would do if I was worried about an intermittent issue

Well, I looked at it today, verified the settings, and it's muffled, you can barely hear the audio up front. Tried adjusting the settings all the way to the front, and it was the same.

maybe an amp going bad? I assume there is an amp powering the JBLs up front.

Do you need to know, or care?
Yes on JBL. Guess it could be plugs too.

Did you ever get any resolution on this? I have a brand new 2016 with JBL, and my rear speakers sound very muffled. When I try to set the fade further to the rear, it never really gets any louder back there. It sounds almost like it is only coming through the sub in the rear. I haven't taken the time to get out and listen to every rear speaker to see if they are actually playing, but it definitely doesn't sound right.

(Update) Never mind...sat in the back this afternoon and the speakers are working fine. I am coming from a 1st Gen access cab, and the way the speakers were laid out in it, my leg usually deadened the sound from the door speaker in front, and the rear speakers were up higher and right behind me, so I was used to hearing more from the back when it was faded to the middle. Just sounded different. Should have listened and looked more before posting.

I took it to the dealer yesterday at 3 pm. They are going to look at it. No word yet. I'm picking it up today regardless because I need it. I'm hoping they figure it out. The advisor agreed there was an issue, they were able to replicate the issue when my wife arrived.

My guess was right. It was the amp. And of course they don't have one so we will have to wait until they get one in

And as of today still not a damn thing from Pat Lobb Toyota in McKinney, Texas. For two weeks we've been trying to get some sort of idea as to what's going on. No one will contact us back. The last 3 days we've tried several times to get an answer. No audio, no amp, no loaner. I'm starting to feel like I should have kept with my original plan of a different car. Toyota of Dallas had shitty customer service as well.

I'm tempted to buy an aftermarket setup and send them the bill.

Sorry to hear about your experience. It took me about 2 months before I got my replacement Head Unit as well. They agreed to order the part for me and said it will take 5-7 days since it will come from the manufacturer. Somebody in the dealership, dropped the ball, toyota corporate is holding it off since they want to investigate and do more tests, the Christmas season and lots of holidays came, got super busy at work due to flu season, then somebody finally gave me a call on January so that they can finish the pending job order and I went in to have it installed.

The dealer finally got the part in yesterday, we got a loaner, and they called back and the amp did not fix it, so NOW they are robbing parts off a new truck to swap onto ours. Why the fuck they couldn't have done this three weeks ago, two, or even one week ago is beyond me. We have a Camry loaner for now. I will report back once I get word what the issue was.

You aren't alone. I would swear there is a problem with my rear speakers as well. Like they are muddy. The system sounds great, but really really balanced towards the front. I'd love to hear another JBL system to see if it is right or not. One day I am convinced it is fine, the next I am not.

To the OP, I hope they get yours sorted out soon!

To be honest we are debating trading the truck in once we get it back. We've been tossing around the idea on a couple options.

I'm not sure if they busted a meter out or not. We had the truck the whole time. Wife was stuck driving it to work without any working audio for 3 weeks. They would not give us a loaner while waiting for it to arrive. I'm hoping we hear something by tomorrow.

Yikes! That's terrible to hear (or not hear in your case).

I'm curious to hear what the fix is, so keep us posted and please give us a long-term update to let us know if the "fix" really did fix it.

Ok, so my wife got her truck back to today, she said all is well. They didn't give her a break down of what all they replaced, but I know they documented it, or should have, so let me reach out to a guy that I know at the dealer and see if he can get the info.
