Was trying to put new struts on the front of my truck last weekend but ran into a problem. The bushing on the bottom of the new strut is too big to fit in the strut bracket on the LCA. You can see in the pic how much the bushing protrudes on each side compared to the old one. Im using the KYB strut plus with the coil spring already loaded on it. I ordered them from rock auto so I checked KYBs site to make sure I received the right part and everything matches up so Im lost. Is there some trick to getting this thing in, am I making a stupid mistake somewhere?

Could grind it off but should have to, id call kyb and see what they have to say, give them the part number and have them confirm it’s correct and hasn’t changed.

That was my first reaction, I figured Id just grind them down but was afraid it might not have been the correct part anyway. I was also concerned that it would damage the rubber in there or make them squeak against the bracket when they moved.

The part sticking out should be a metal sleeve the bolt goes through. On the originals you’ll notice it just barely sticks out of the rubber bushing, that’s what you want. With a very good metal cut off wheel it should be a breeze and shouldnt overheat and melt the bushing. Just be careful. But I’d still call kyb and ask them what they think.

A little bit of the sleeve needs to be there so you don’t pinch the bottom of the shock in the mount and then it can’t move as the suspension moves.

Mark the lower control arm alignment cams and loosen the bolts. Drop the lower control arm down and try to fit the shock in-between the mounting brackets.

you can spread those tabs using an adjustable wrench to get it to fit, I had to do this putting on my rear Bilstein shocks with a little dish wash soap, slipped right in [IMG]
