The truck was my first automatic after having 22 vehicles with manual trans including 2 manual wranglers and a Cherokee. Never buying a manual trans for off-road ever again... Would I like to have a 4wheel camper on my runner, sure, but that’s the only reason I’d ever have a truck again. Never buying another Tacoma that’s for damn sure. I never really used the truck bed except for moving. I’ve got a 20 foot car hauler/dump trailer so I’m not worried about not having a bed.

Year 2000 was last year of the MT 4Runner. I’ve driven one, but much different than the 1st gen Tacoma MT

Oh we’re gravy, baby! I’m sad to leave the Tacoma community, so much more support, but I’m excited for the next chapter.

Yeah. It was way back there. I thought that you could get an SR5 MT non-leather a bit after that? I think I might have seen that around 2003 or 4 when we were looking at a family hauler. In 2014, we were looking for something newer than that.

Off topic, how has the MT Forester been? I'm assuming the 2.5i engine. Good car?

I love trucks, too, but man, I'd throw that in a trailer, personally. Lower load height and better strap points.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
So what are you looking at buying?

No. We still needed leather for the messy kids and wanted the turbo, so it was a CVT or nothing. She 'entertained' my search for a 2008-ish Forester XT MT or a 2.5GT wagon. They were hens teeth when we were looking, and she was opposed to a WRX MT hatch, as odd as that sounds. In the end, she's indifferent about transmissions and loves the Forester. It has been stellar with no issues. She says that she'll only drive Subarus going forward. I keep trying to chat up EVs for the when she's ready to change (6yrs or so?).

Myself, I hate it only for the transmission. I'd be a really fun machine with an MT on that turbo. If we take it someplace together, I'm happy in the right seat.

Subaru like a Saab, everyone owns one at some time. We (I) went down that road with a 2008 Outback XT Turbo AT.

Good thing I bought the extended warranty, the turbo blew, the engine blew and finally the auto trans shit the bed. Last Subaru I’ll ever own. Three of my friends blew their engines on their STIs, too.

They’re really not race cars. But, off road Subaru’s are pretty sick. If they don’t blow up.

I’m partly to blame because I did put a bigger turbo in it and Cobb tuning. Zero to whatever was awesome, it was an Audi killer while hauling groceries in the back.

We are on our 2nd Subie - 2011 Outback with ~128,000 and the enigine and CVT are in perfect condition!. This car does rip through tires, brakes, and headlights well all effing lights. Overall has been a fantastic car for wifey and she refuses to give it up for a new Forester (I want MT, but we know she will get the CVT)

Girlfriend had a 2006 Forrester. Never again. 112k miles and burned 3 quarts of oil between 5k oil changes. No spots in the driveway after a year so had to be burning it. Transmission seals shrink up in the winter and it takes forever to build up pressure to shift out of park and chirps the tires when it finally does. Pour some TransX in it. Should not be a known solution.

Got a check engine code for low idle RPM. Check the vacuum lines. There are only about 73 of them... I know exaggerating, but I hated that car.

Haha! We had a 2001 saab 9-3 SE MT convertible. That was her choice also, but I drove it as much as possible. Loved, LOVED that they way they wired that boost. It spooled even better with a couple simple mods. If the power was going to the proper wheels, we'd still own it. Sold it to a neighbor for their 16yr old. I was a bit worried, but he did great with it and still has it 5yrs later.

Coming from PA, we always wanted a Subby, but it didn't happen until recently. Honestly, I heard about the head gasket issues, but I only knew one person that even had leaks. Most folks I know that kept them had over 200k of happy miles. Who knows? It does seem that the Toyota investment has made better at the expense of styling? Lot of commonality in switchgear and such.
