Totally stock truck. Neighborhood has some wide/low style speed control humps. I go over them and get a "clank" type noise from the front. Metal to metal sound. Never got if from my FJ. Something loose or just normal suspension movement? I'm not going particularly fast but it is probably unloading some weight from the front as I go over them. Really slow = no noise. Thoughts?

If manual and you have the clutch pushed in, it will sound like two frying pans banging together, I've heard it's normal.

That's why I was asking if it was a manual or automatic. Without a load on the drivetrain there is free play somewhere that makes a sound just like the OP describes.

My 1st generation Tacoma made the same sound.

yep I get something of this sound as well. I'll check the body mounts. Sometimes I can hear a sound that almost sounds like the drums in the back realigning after holding the brake for a while, let off and move up a few feet (as in a drive-thru) then press the brake again and hear it. Nice solid metal to metal sound.

It's an auto. Just had 10k done today but wasn't in the mood to describe it and have them tell me they couldn't replicate it. Yes, I literally stood there having that thought why he was checking me in so I just kept quiet. I can't take the bullshit from them sometimes. Just like the poor shifting at my 5k. I found it hard to believe that the people checking me in at TOYOTA with TOYOTA on their shirts had not heard about the transmission problems. If I was a service manager it would be mandatory for them to spend 30 minutes cruising forums daily to at least be aware of what kind of things were happening with their vehicles. It would make all our experiences a little less painful if they didn't play so stupid or sometimes try and act so intelligent to cover the fact they have no knowledge of their products. BLAH!

I'll check the body mount but that's not a bad thought. I may be letting off the brake right after I roll up it. I will have to do some experimenting but it seems it is a bit louder than an caliper/pad shifting.

If you have a gopro maybe you can find a creative way to attach it somewhere to the frame pointed toward the noise area. I know some Dealer techs will use Bluetooth chassis ears.

that might be slop in the driveline. I've noticed this one is really noisy. I have a jeep with a detroit locker in the rear and it is similar to the kind of slop/clunk that puts in the system.

So after a little really paying attention, it appears to make the noise in a compression scenario first. I pulled out of my driveway and when it nosed down through the drive to street transition I got the noise. Really more of a pop and then release like a flexing or a bolt letting something hit and return. Same thing over the speed humps. Noise happens when tire hits the level pavement on the other side and then I get the release pop. Still a metal sound but I guess more like tapping two round rods together vs. my original description. Really sounds like it's coming from behind the tire in the suspension rather than the body mount.

I installed a 3 leaf AAL, so while I was in there hit all of the leafs with the Energy Suspension grease. So far no squeaks since April. Warranty will no longer apply to my truck suspension based on the mods. Therefore warranty is no factor for me.

I've experienced some similar noises from my driver's front suspension. I'll have the ole lady drive it around and do my best to listen to the body mounts. Thanks for the advice guys!
