I added some rings to the front of my 2nd gen. There’s a 2”x2” square backing plate to distribute the load. Have thousands of miles hauling a YZ 450F and CBR600 with no issues.

I've used em many many time for groms, and I crank em down, never an issue. I can't speak for a full size bike though.

I pulled a rookie mistake and used my cleats to tie my bike down on one of my outings, hit some back trails and ended up hitting a unexpected deep pothole. The bounceback ended up breaking the cleat in half and sending my handle bar through my passenger fender. Cost me alot more money to fix than a few d/rings.

Has anyone found either good stainless d-rings or something that is at least coated? Also are you using the existing bolts?

A few post earlier someone mentioned using the T55 bolts that hold the bed to the frame......they're really long and look like it shouldn't be an issue.
Still trying to track down a good one-hole d-ring, HD and lower have 2-hole ones.

How did you make such nice holes on the rubber? Did you use a hole saw? If so, what size? And how did you locate the center?

    Thanks!

Do the added D rings rotate like the stock ones, or they locked by the bolts? Or, did you mod them to rotate?

On the second pic, it looks like that one can rotate?

You lock them by the bolts. Face them any direction you want.

With a strap. I was tightening a strap and was hearing a cracking noise. I stopped and found this solution. This d rings are strong. Same ones i saw in hummvees in the marine corps.

    Thanks!

It'd be nice if they rotated, but it is fine if they don't. I just wouldn't want them to work the bolts loose. That's easy enough to keep an eye on though.

    They look beefy.

I’ve had mine over 4 years. Never had a problem or had to rotate them.

Yea if you get 6 d rings. Cost you just over $20 and well worth it.
The front of the bed, i put the d rings at an angle as you can see in the pic.

Dumb question - how do you mount the d-ring into the floor? did you use a through bolt and have a nut on back side or did you thread a hole?

Lastly, I have hauled a atv all the way from Seattle to southern Oregon using only factory locations up front and in the back with no issues and I had the straps pretty darn tight. I also use the rings in the trac bars along the side of the bed for extra, but I do not rely on those for strength.
