Is a front tire hitch worth it? its sitting in the bottom trunk, is it a must for offroading? Ive been offroading i dont do nothing crazy more overlanding than anything and never had a problem, thx

    'Splain your self. Pictures?

Trucks don't have trunks. Do you mean it's in stock position under the bed?

Define 'off roading'. Nevermind. Its only needed if you are hanging it up or damaging it.

Then who told you it was a 'must'?

    something like this?

    Spare-Tire-front-receiver-hitch-Toyota-Tundra.jpg

personally I wouldn't want to mount a spare there, the stock location under the bed is fine. Or if you have bigger tires you can mount it to the rear hitch, get a bumper swing out, keep it in the bed, on a bed rack, etc. All of those are better than mounting it to the front end IMO

Putting your spare tire on the front bumper puts it in more harm's way than just leaving it in the stock location... It's actually pretty well projected there.

Main reason people put them on the (rear) bumper is because they have larger than stock tires that no longer fit in teh stock location.

And yes, a spare tire is absolutely a MUST for off-roading.

I have E rated tires, and I've "never had a problem" either... But I STILL carry a spare.

No hitch, not on the bumper. But it is a good bug catcher. :D

For a time I had one spare on a rear tire/gas can rack and another on the front hitch of my jeep. Worked pretty well, but once or twice it interfered with my approach angle. Decided to put the second in the bed of my CJ-8.
I suppose if you just want to cruise around the mall and look cool it's okay.

    hence my comment.
also it's air cooled boxer 4 cylinder. fun fact, VW called that vehicle a station wagon, not a van, not a bus

I know. My boss has one fully restored and another he’s working on this year. That’s what made me think of it. He doesn’t want the tire there so he’s got to do something about the holes it will leave same thing about an oil cooler that they mounted on the rear driver side. He tells me that same kinda crap all the time I tell him I truly don’t understand why anyone would want to spend money on one of those but I guess the one he has is pretty rare and I was surprised to learn how much some of them can be worth. To me they are still a giant turd but each to his own.
