I purchased a front bearing from detroit axle on ebay. A fellow tw'er pointed to that dealer. Paid $40 with shipping, worked perfectly.

Felt vibration in my wheel and realized its not from my tires. Took it to my local 4x4 shop and they did the tire wiggle test which revealed my driver side front wheel bearings were bad. Parts from Toyota were around $275 and the shop charged me $175 to do the install. Took them around 3-4 hours with pressing the bearing. Rather disappointed with this because I've never had to replace any other wheel bearings from my previous lifted Toyotas I've had in the past. Those all had atleast 150-250k miles on them before being sold.

Ok, so i am staring at my new timkin bearings...How are you guys getting new grease in there?? I ask, because most people are telling me that the new bearings come with LITHIUM grease packed at the factory..Clean the bearings, then pack them with quality wheel bearing grease.
These aren't like the old style, they are already pressed into an assembly.
Any ideas? Pressing them out to repack them isn't an option. ($50 per side to press out and in)....(insert joke here)
    thanks in advance.

If there's not hub and it's just the unitized bearing you can pull out at least one of the races pretty easy.

Seems pretty odd, should last 10x that much. I'd have them show you before they start work, what makes it bad.

sorry, still don't get it. timkin bm500007. it looks like a double bearing setup. pressed into the "rectangular bearing module". people have called these parts so many different things.. I cannot believe that a sealed bearing unit has to be pressed apart, greased, then pressed back in..only to then be pressed into the hub. Really? I have got to be missing something.
this is the downside of getting old. before, I would just tear the damn thing apart, without planning everything down to the minute..but, the truck has Saturdays off only...
    thanks

Okay you have a unitized wheel bearing. You have two sets of tapered roller bearings inside a housing, called a unit bearing. The housing itself is a race for each bearing, then you have two other races. The one without the tone ring (speed sensor, hall effect) comes out easily. Then you can pull out the bearing. They're not pressed. That's why that plastic sleeve sits inside the assembly. Both races will come out but I'm not sure what force is required to remove the other side, I have an old bearing that I can easily pull both races out of, and consequently the bearings, but when trying to grease the new ones I didn't want to push too hard. So I just packed the whole thing with as much grease as I could force inside there, then packed the other bearing, and put it back together.

People don't understand these terms and components completely. It's not a sealed bearing. There are external seals to seal it. It's a unitized (unit) bearing, and it has a hub that presses into it.

I can't remember for certain, the race may have came out separately of the bearing or they may have pulled out together. Either way you can get it greased. And honestly I don't think the other side is held in there any way special, could probably pop it out as well with a little effort. At least I found nothing that would lead me to believe so when I had the old bearing apart.

Offset wheels/spacers put the same kind of forces on bearings -- more leverage. I wouldn't let it stop you from running them though. You're just putting more wear on your bearings and they're likely to fail earlier, bearings are damn tough though.

    1. Below are the bearings i was going to purchass Timken.
    2. they are with the hub. do they need to be pressed?
    3. Do i need to pack with more grease?
    4. Would it be better to just buy the buying? these are $80 bucks online.

    I have a 2005 prerunner, 2wd 4lt v6. Front bearing went out yesterday with 78,000

    Glad I could help Dewey.

    Dune boy,

Looks like just the unit bearing to me. And for 80$ I doubt it comes with a hub pressed in, ready to go anyway. If you have to press it all and you have it apart you may as well grease.

The grease in the bearings is ONLY FOR SHIPPING unless you buy the hub and bearing assembled and no one ever does.

The grease in them is NOT bearing grease and if you do not grease them they will fail ASAP.
