Buy some from Timken and use that regardless of it's make up. They make the bearings so I'm pretty sure their grease will be good.

Should be able to. Might take it somewhere other than pepboys though. :D

Valvoline syn power grease. Highly rated on BITOG forums, even over mobil 1.

Or something high temp with moly.

you could try and cut them out, but whats the point if you have to take it to the shop anyway. Just let them handle it all. I paid $20 per side for them to press out and press in (NAPA machine shop)

You'll need to press the old ones off, cut the races off the hub, and press the hubs into the new ones. Grease em up before you take em. I'd find some place comptent. Inevitably Pepboys will knick something with a grinder or break something while pressing.

whats your area? If I were you I would find a intelligent member in your locality and ask him where to go. Regional threads are key for this sort of stuff.

Dude CA has literally 99% of the offroad shops within it. You have more shops in your county then I have in my state. Plenty of places to go. Check your regional thread and ask around.

Yeah but finding someone to do it for less then 80 bucks a wheel is pretty hard.

So just call timken beacuse im getting there front wheel bearings this week and he confirmed that they are already packed with grease, and its bearing grease not shipping grease. he siad there is no need to repack them with more. and that these are basically call sealed up.

    What do you guys think?

Was he a product engineer etc... or a customer service rep?

Timken may have changed their tune but there are multiple PDFs floating around that say their bearings only ship with a light coat of grease to preserve the bearings and need to be packed. Everything else I know about bearings and mechanical workings would also lead me to believe you should pack them and they're not sealed. So I strongly disagree.

I may not be timken but I have a pretty decent background in this type of stuff, IMHO at least.

I replaced my drivers side wheel bearing today. I got a NAPA wheel bearing and they were very cheap on the whole grease install. I repacked the bearing myself and loaded it right up.

what did you use to rest against the bearing? I've got a press available but not sure about the tooling required to press it out.

Just go buy a press, harbor freight has a 12 ton that goes on sale for like 79-99 bucks.

Moly greases dont supposed to be used on the tapered bearings. Moly makes rollers slide instead of just rolling.
Valvoline syn grease, (at least few times I used ) had separated very quickly and flow out from the place. IMHO Valvoline Syn is POS

I have the Valvoline Syn in my grease gun right now. I used it to lube all of the zerks in my 4x4 driveline. When I finished I set the gun on top of a cardboard box. After 1-2 days I noticed oil leaking out of the gun and onto the box. I then wrapped the gun in it's original plastic packaging to keep the oil leak contained. Now, the entire cardboard box is saturated with oil. I won't be using Valvoline Syn again.

Some separation is OK but valvoline grease seems to be separating at crazy rates.
I used to use it to fill my knuckles with it. And I thought I had seals failing. Replaced Marlin seals 4 times until I realized it was POS Valvoline Syn separating. I hate that junk. Now I use it only to put on bolts.

Just packed my bearings with that stuff. Yay or nay?

Also what are you guys using to press the bearing out. Obviously a press but what are you placing on top of the bearing for the press to push against

I think whoever you talked to was talking about the bearing and hub they sell assembled. The entire assembly does come pre-greased because it has to. Once Timken assembles them you can't grease them.

just from the 300 threads that get asked per year in here is enough in it's own. Between you, BlueT, and me I think we are posting in every one. Maybe someone in mod land should sticky a thread about it one day.
