    Hi Tacoma World,

I’ve learned a lot and been inspired here over the years! Sadly, my first post is an accident post. I’m looking for advice on next steps with repairs and parts of anyone could be of help.

I was turning left out of 7-11, and didn’t see a car in the left most lane coming fast from behind the right lane of traffic and our corners collided. It was an older Camry and it seems my side panels, grill, and even hood are not damaged, but they haven’t been assessed yet (hopefully tomorrow).

What are your all’s thoughts on the accident and the damage? Thank you everyone for your feedback.

    Looks fixable to me.

I don’t see enough damaged for it to be totaled, if that’s what you are worried about?

Fix it, plate bumper, and lift it.
    It's not totaled.
    Good luck with your truck.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I installed bilstein struts myself and have a 1” add a leaf in the back. Trying to decide what strut/bumper combo I should install and if I should avoid anything.

    Driver's side fog light
    Spindle or steering tie rod
    CV axle
Driver's side brake hose and ABS sensor wire may be broken as well, from the wheel being forced to the extreme angle.

Check the rear of the cab for contact marks with the bed and cap. The force of the impact was enough to fling the fuel filler door open.

Interestingly I've replaced/upgraded more things on the front end than you have broken

Thanks! Good eye on the fuel cap; that already was a bit faulty so not surprised it flew open. But still, wondering hidden issued the impact may have had on the rest of the truck.

My wheel was turned somewhat left already when hit, not sure if that will lessen the damage there. Hoping frame is ok. What would you replace with OEM vs aftermarket?

^I hope your steering rack is OK and damage is limited to the tie rod.

CV axle should be replaced with OEM new or OEM remanufactured. Steering rack (if damaged) should be replaced with OEM new. Rest are OK with aftermarket.

Upgrade to a steel bumper, might as well. ;)

Thanks for the advice. Does anyone have any experience dealing with insurance / body shops and selecting parts? Especially aftermarket or ‘upgraded’ parts.

Normally your insurance will only replace with OEM or OEM "like" parts, but you will have to talk with your insurance agent.

Hope you’re ok. Like said not a total. Need a left knee (suspension). Only thing I would be concerned about is the frame where the suspension mounts. Rest should be fixable fairly straight forward.
