Hey guys first post here - -

    '03 tacoma prerunner - -

Where does everyone get replacement front windshield glass? I tried going through safelight with a huge disappointment. They won't touch your windshield if they see any surface rust around it.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to TacomaWorld
Find an independent glass shop to do it.
You may have to sign a waiver and/or pay for rust repairs.
This won't be a drive out and do it at your house experience.

Just had a local co do it and I had no clue it had rust under it. They took cracked glass out, sanded and primed the rust and put new glass in and didn't even charge me extra. It was just under 300 I think. It was worth it for that alone. I would have had to drive the truck home with goggles, sand prime and bring back for the glass.

I also have a 90 Mustang 350 hp and I can never understand how come my Tacoma gets more respect Just got a 99 Jeep TJ that I rebuilt, and painted in the garage
Me too. Had an independent do it and they found the only rust on my truck. The guy said Safelite wouldnt do it. I had to sign a waiver.

Completely understandable just a company wide policy it is easier to refuse the work then have the problems with a leaking windshield and a disgruntled customer

Yelp. I sent out a message to several companies and got one for $175, installed.

Think that's around where mine was too. This isn't big or extremely curved glass...

I'd take it to a body shop and get that rust repaired, then do the windshield. The reason a lot of places wont touch it with the rust is because it's likely to leak after the replacement.

Or just invest in clear tape.

i had my windshield replaced, and the new seals that go along the A-pillar didn't have the same size lip. The oem ones had a lip for water run off, and the new ones are flush with the pillar. did anyone else encounter this? i went to safelite which might explain this.

I don't remember that specifically, but years ago I have my windshield replaced thru insurance and I instantly noticed the noise from the wind at highway speed was louder. I attributed it to the shape of the seal being different enough to cause more turbulence.

Then like 2 weeks later a semi flipped a rock up and gave me another chip.

I just had my windshield replaced by Safelite yesterday and when I made the appt, they asked me if my windshield trim extended away from the glass by about a 1/2 inch. I said yes and the new aftermarket trim looks very similar to what I had before. I'm not sure if I had OEM glass before the replacement though.

Yup, and now if it is even lightly raining and you want to just open the door glass just a little you will suck that rain right into the pickup. I only have 66k miles on my '04 but it is on its third windshield. Neither replacement rubber had the factory style lip on the windshield sides. Both replacement windshields were done by Speedy Auto Glass.

The lipped stripping was with the cold weather package if I recall correctly. Next windshield ask for it in advance if you care.

Like others have said, call around to local glass companies. I had one replace my windshield on my 03 DC for about $75-100 dollars cheaper than safelight. I just paid out of pocket and got a better deal than going through insurance company.

Fix the rust or you'll be replacing a floor pan later.
