It doesn’t work like that. You are referring to the Full Faith and Credit Clause of Article 4. There are definite limitations and like many parts of the Constitution, this is not absolute. This is why one’s drivers license and registration are good in every state, but something like a carry permit or a professional license are not. California is notorious for ticketing out of state vehicles for code violations. Even a registration situation is not absolute. There are several of my neighbors who have AZ plates on their SXS, but CA doesn’t recognize these as street legal vehicles and will ticket them, plates or not. CA likes to kill the fun with vehicle stuff. CA does not allow any “film” applied to the front side windows or the windshield below the AS1 line. There are no permissible tint gradients for these areas. However, if your not doing anything else to get pulled over, the police tend not to be heavy handed about it. CHP are probably the most likely to cite you, especially on a remote highway or if you are speeding through a small town. Revenue and all. I was cited going and coming from Mammoth once by the same CHP. That guy pulled me over on Sherwin Grade while pulling a trailer with my old 4 cyl Toyota Truck. Followed me out of Bishop, waited until I was part way up the grade, and lit me up. Started going through our gear in the bed and looking over the boat on the trailer. He was a real hard ass about the whole thing. My only violation was the side windows.

Here in Los Angeles seems like everyone is getting Limo tint on their windshield.

I approach a 4 way STOP sign and these dumbasses are waving me to go ahead but I can’t see them inside waiving me by.

I have a strip of 5%. It was mainly to cover the visor lights I have in it for the fire department. I kind of wish I got the whole front windshield done in a lighter percentage. I may see if my tint guy can do it from the visor strip down in like 35% or 50%. Rest of the truck is 5%(including over the factory tint in the rear).

I had my door windows tinted and they did the top of the windshield as part of the deal. I didn't know it when I set it up. I have said it looks kind of dump to me but after having it done, it is very helpful to reduce glare.

This has always been my thoughts on it, then i drove through GA and got pulled over on the highway just because of my tint. $280 ticket and the cop was a complete asshole. Was doing 75 in a 70 driving like a normal sane human and he felt the need to risk my life and his to pull me over on the side of a highway to give me a tint ticket

Sounds like a crappy product. Your example is apples to oranges. There are high quality products out there that don't distort your view whatsoever. Think of it like wearing sunglasses.

If that were to happen to me I would remove the tint and pay the ticket and put tint on again, its worth it.

Does anyone have guidance on which brand/type of ceramic tint to use? There are a nauseating number of options out there. I am pulling the glass off of my camper shell because the old tint is flaking and planning to re-do the tint. Old stuff came off pretty easy and I think I can figure out how to apply the new tint since it's just a flat rectangle of glass (seems easy, but who knows). I'd like to do something very dark, like 5%, but just not sure which brand or type of ceramic tint folks have had good luck with. Grateful for anyone's guidance here.

Looks like those tint installers in the shops in your town do not know what they are doing.

The shop in my town has no problem with tinting and no issues with electronics. I worked for tint shop when I was younger before I went to work for home construction company.

It's about eye sights... If your eye sights are good, then you see fine. If you have bad sights, then you would have problem seeing through tint at night depending on percentage of tint on windshield. Tint shops have samples before installation... so you can check and see which you like. 70% on front is light... 50% or lower is getting dark.. 5% on front is very bad idea except 5% strip on top of windshield is fine.

I rode with a friend of mine who has tint on windshield, I see through tint fine at night. I don't have tint on mine yet but plan to.

I'm pretty sure they know what they are doing. Maybe it just isn't worth the trouble to them. Tint can be an issue in Colorado where as Kentucky might not be so tough on it maybe?

Sounds like tint installers are newbies in your area or they are being lazy and not mess with the windshield or electronics. Tint installers in my town are experienced and fast. Look up on Google for 'Fastest Tinter'

I went with “Xpel” brand, there’s a thread on here that sold me on the brand. There’s like 4 different types of tint you can get with varying levels of performance. I paid like $550 to do the whole truck and have them put clear ceramic tint in my exterior “door handle cups”. There’s a buncha Xpel installers all over the country and I’d imagine there’s probably one nearish you.

It's actually the product and the installer. There's so many cheap versions about 10 out there I can see needing more water or otherwise to install it correctly.

No, I don't have bad eye sight.. I know the difference between those tints (remember, I worked for tint shop back in the day)... I was talking about back in the day before ceramic tint came out.

My glass? I didn't say i have tint on mine.. Go back and read my previous posts in this thread.

Super helpful, thanks a lot! Looks like they also sell it on eBay, so I might get a roll and just try to DIY install since it's just the camper shell.

When I was a college kid in the mid 90s I got pulled over in Odessa by a Texas Trooper solely because of front window and windshield tint. Not speeding, not weaving, they passed, saw the tint, and immediately dropped behind to pull me.

At the time I had 10% all the way around. They took their little meter and measured it roadside (who knew they had such a device), issued me a fat ticket, and then added injury to injury. They gave me a choice: peel it off while they watched or have the car towed.

I peeled it and haven't fucked with equipment violations since.
