Did mine just enough to match width of the factory speckles from top, 20%, could have probably gone darker.

I just had my windshield done with the clear ceramic tint and it is great. Drive a lot in west Texas and the heat sucked. Not an issue anymore.

Not sure if someone has answered yet but the % is amount of light the tint lets through. So 30% is darker than 70% because it only lets 30% of the light through the film.

As a psychology nerd, I would suggest you look up the big 5 personality traits. Trait disagreeable is what applies here.

Disagreeable people essentially have a skewed sense of fairness and struggle to consider other people. Narcissism is essentially just high disagreeable and psychopathy / anti social is extremely high. Most jerks aren’t that high but they are still largely intolerable to average or agreeable people.

That being said, nobody chooses their nervous system so compassion is in order as well. Compassion and avoidance. My psychology mentor calls it the “disagreeable distance”, which is basically like the real life version of “don’t feed the trolls.”

The interesting thing is that disagreeable people are more likely to drive big loud lifted trucks so you would expect more disagreeable people here on TW than the general population. For the most part everyone seems pretty civil. But the occasional hopeless jerk would be expected too.

Depending on light conditions I have to unroll my front windows that are tinted just to match the factory tint in the rear. I could not imagined having my windshield tinted to any degree!

I agree you can probably just do it. But cops use the your window tint as an excuse to pull people over, especially minorities driving in the "wrong" neighborhood. There is a hilarious/sad video of the Florida State Attorney being pulled over by some cops, partly because “Also, the windows are really dark, I don’t have a tint measure but that’s another reason for the stop,” he adds. When they realize she's the state attorney, oh gosh their tone changes. The funniest point is when she literally snaps her fingers "give me your business cards." Her tint wasn't even illegal.

Here in Florida they will let you tint to the AS1 line on the front as was mentioned in other posts earlier. They also have rules on tint levels for the side and rear. I told my tint guy to go as far as he could on the sides and back and still be legal, and not to touch the front windshield. I use a shade for the front when it's parked. That said, there are a lot of people here who tint well beyond what the law allows. Cops here carry a tint meter but they never pull anyone over just for tint. If they pull you over for another reason and want to pile on, then they pull out the tint meter.

Just an FYI, State's Attorney are what we call district/assistant district attorneys here. There are hundreds of them, not just one. The cop still picked the wrong person to pull a bonehead move on though :)

I used to be obsessed with tint
My worst car was a 2 door jeep jk with 2 layers of 5% all around every window and 5% on my entire front windshield

But I’ve pretty much always ran 5% all around and 30% on my windshield. Had 5 cars in the last 4 years never had a ticket. 44A87928-5BEA-4B9B-94DC-BD0B075FD211.jpg44A87928-5BEA-4B9B-94DC-BD0B075FD211.jpg

Hi, I need someone to help me regarding windshield, I recently removed a dark eyebrow tint from my 2020 Tacoma. It left some residue, so I tried to remove it with chemicals and a scraper, but one more layer of clear film started to roll off!

Is this second (almost transparent) film a factory option or a factory standard protective film? If so, I think I have done something wrong. Silly question, but I'm not sure because I bought this car as used. Does it matter if I remove this clear film?

You can remove it. If you want no tint on windshield, you can take it off. If you want different tint, then no problem and remove that tint and put up new one.

But do NOT use any harsh chemicals.. Use something like baby shampoo or ammonia-free dish soap. If you already use chemicals on the glass, then clean windshield with acetone or or film adhesive remover.... then install new tint. Tint will be damaged if chemicals left on the glass.

By the way, the film on windshield is from aftermarket... Not factory.

Tint companies have clear tint if you want. They also have colors you choose one from. Including percentage choice such as 5% 30% etc..

    ask a tint guy.

pretty sure I removed my old 5% with ammonia and trash bags.

kinda miss the dark privacy but not the visibility.
Got 10% now and you can definitely see through it.
