Edit XC-90 interior compared to the Volvo. I've never heard one complaint about the XC-90 interior, I have heard of multiple complaints about the Frontier's interior. Layout look identical and the Volvo is what $20k more.

Pot meet kettle. Of all the things you could complain about with the new Frontier on a 4th gen taco forum, rear seat room is laughable.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
I jumped. Time will be the arbiter of whether my decision was wise or not. Was only able to talk myself into a 3rd gen because of cog swapper. A 4 cylinder belongs in a 3000lb truck, like toyota used to make not in a 4700lb truck. Bewst or no bewst.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I fn love Nissan. I never really gave a shit about the feel of the steering. For 300k it went where I pointed it.

Wait for the 2025s to come out. Seem to have lots of upgrades over the 24s. It's def on my list of trucks to look at in the next year or two!

You misunderstood. With all the people complaining about reduced rear legroom on the 4th gen, it's important to know the Frontier's rear seat is even more cramped.

I don't think that is right... The Frontier isn't huge, but based on what I've seen from both online and in person:

^Based on what I've seen in person, the Frontier's rear legroom is pitiful. The published figure may be from a lack of standardization in how it's measured.

Maybe you are right. It may not be standardized. None of the midsize trucks impress me. I think buying a full size truck just for rear passenger leg room is also kind of silly.

The problem with the current Frontier is that, before 2022, $5K was the starting point on discounts. You could buy a 4X4 S trim for under $30K, an SV for ~$32K, and the PRO-4X ~$35K. Post 2022, the discounts have yet to return (at least in my area I'm not seeing them), so the Frontier doesn't have "good enough, but cheap" going for it at the moment. They must be selling, because Nissan isn't discounting like they used to. However, for $40K+, I'd buy a Ranger XLT FX4 before buying a Pro-4X.

Revisiting a prior thought. Nissan screwed the pooch when they discontinued the BOF Pathfinder, and never brought it back in the 20-30 years when BOF midsizes SUV dominated the sales charts. What an amazingly bad decision that was.

I recently was finally able to test drive a 2024 TRD OR and an SR5.
Unfortunately it was a big disappointment, but only concerning the engine. The engine noise and turbo whistle was loud and obnoxious.
The motor on the TRD OR sounded so rough I’m sure something was wrong with it. That’s why I drove the SR5 to compare. The SR5 motor was slightly less rattley, but the whistle was the same. Nothing smooth about the power either.

I’m used to an f150 3.5 ecoboost with quiet, smooth power and no noticeable whistle.

Also drove a 2024 Tundra CrewMax and it was very nice and smooth, quiet.

Then after that I test drove a 2025 Frontier CC Pro 4X LB, and the engine noise and characteristics was a lot different than the Tacoma.
A lot quieter, and smoother power. Stiffer steering, but it felt like the back seat was roomier than the Tacoma. Maybe a difference in seat design, height , etc. But seemed like more leg room sitting back there with drivers seat adjusted for me in both trucks.

Driving around residential neighborhoods with stop and go traffic in the Tacomas was not an enjoyable driving experience. I wanted to love it and I’m admittedly a little heart broken.
My wife hated it after only a couple blocks. In comparison of mid sized trucks, the Frontier was a much nicer experience.

I think I’m spoiled by the v6 TT ecoboost motor.

May have to consider a tundra or new f150.

They brought it back from 2005-2012, I believe.
    https://www.edmunds.com/nissan/pathfinder/2012/review/

They also had the Xterra during the same time, 2003-2015ish?

BOF SUVs really climbed in popularity post 2015; around 2010 everyone was more concerned about gas mileage, and finances in general. It was crossovers that had a huge support during the early 2000s.

All that said, you're right, and it's interesting they haven't been able to compete in that segment, despite having some solid options.

Intimidated? I doubt it… All he seemed to be saying was maybe you should go to the Nissan forum and ask your question. It’s unlikely that someone who just purchased a Nissan would be on here.

This isn't the first time I forgot about the Xtera and probably won't be the last lol. I must have forgot about the later Pathfinder and I recall seeing them. That's how Iconic the original Pathfinder was IMO. Kind of odd for Nissan to keep the Frontier, Nissan's best US vehicle. Along with the Armada, a midsize and a fullsize.

    Edit

Maybe Nissan will launch a BOF hybrid midsize Pathfinder in the future when they completely redesign the Frontier, or hybridize the current Frontier platform with a SUV body. None of this sounds likely to happen.

If the steering radius on the new gen Frontier is no better than the last gen, deal breaker. I drove the last gen Frontier for the first time as a rental a few years back. Go to pull out of the parking spot to leave the airport, and it's WTF. I had to make 3 pt turn to get out, and there was plenty of space between rows. No way you could drive switchbacks with this truck.
