Frontier V6 vs Taco 4cyl

Coworker just bought a 79 pace car. He wants more power, but it’s all stock and also wants to keep it that way. Life is hard.

 

The 3rd gen is better… For you, and many other consumers. The gen 4 is also better for many. But why post in the gen 4 forum just to SHIT on everyone who choose to spend their hard earned $$$ on a gen4 vs a gen3 or a Nissan? It’s simply pointless and contributes nothing to either owners or prospective owners.

 

For what it’s worth, when I test drove the 2024 Tacoma and a 2025 Nissan Frontier, the Frontier rear space “seems” bigger when sitting back there. That is with the drivers seat set for me as a 5’8” driver. Also appears to be more usable space when the seats are folded up.

It’s probably because the Tacoma rear seats are bigger, taller and thicker so maybe take up more space.

I had a '22 Frontier Crew Cab, and I'm 6' 2" so I had the driver's seat all the way back on the seat tracks in that truck. In the Nissan, The distance from the front end of the rear bottom seat cushion to the back of my drivers seat was greater than the same distance in my '24 Tacoma. But the Tacoma's seat backs are tilted a bit (the Nissan was near vertical) and the bottom seat cushion is larger on the Tacoma. So my daughter who is 5'4" says the Nissan gave her more room for her legs to feel less pinched between the front and rear seat, but the seat in the Tacoma is worlds more comfortable to sit in. I know why Toyota did what they did, but just a couple of extra inches in the cab would have made the Tacoma's back seat so much more comfortable all the way around - a comfy, normal shaped seat with just enough leg room to not feel pinched. But then the truck would have also been longer, not fit in garages, etc, etc. All trade offs I suppose. I still think the Tacoma is better truck than the Nissan I had, but for other reasons than the back seat which I've shared in other posts.
One thing the Nissan rear seat is far superior is the mechanism that lifts up and holds the rear seat in place to use the floor for cargo. I really think Toyota was cheap just adding a small strap to "snap" the seat bottom to the seat back to hold it up. Mine are already getting loose and not holding together, and the foam under the snap is softening, so its harder to snap vs when it was new. Crap design IMO to save a few bucks. Didn't stop me from buying the Taco and certainly not anything I'm going to get rid of it for, but it is turning out to be one little thing I regularly dislike about this truck when I have to use it.
I guess that is maybe the one thing about the Nissan and Toyota that seemed much different to me. Some basic content. The mid grade SV Nissan was outfitted nicely. Power drivers seat, dual zone climate control, leather steering wheel. For the Toyota, I couldn't even get a power seat on the SR5 nor the dual zone climate control. To get those options would have pushed me out of the SR5 completely into a higher trim level.

 

I rented it for 2 weeks lol. Someone rear ended my 3rd gen and i am waiting on repairs, i am driving 4th gen as rental

We should all go over to the 3rd gen page and tell them what crap they have and how stupid they are.

 

An earlier generation Tacoma is neither of the subjects here, and the Toyota Dynamic Force engine family started shipping in 2017. IMO the Frontier, prior gen and new gen Tacoma are all fine products. Maybe some of those sorts of posts are just more data for my idea that we have too much jealousy and success envy in our society.

To me strong cases for a Frontier and any generation Tacoma start with the long bed. More than how many cylinders, the much improved safety ratings and much improved seating tipped me towards the sale. Having had two prior gen V6, not screaming in pain when climbing and not hunting for gears are icing on the cake.

 

lmao at corvette drivers. Old farts spend more time washing/detailing them than driving them and wouldn't dare drive it in the rain.

 

Or pass anyone. I wouldn't mind having a Mustang GTD for those rare occasions you pull up next to a Z06.

I get it, and I'm sure the packaging and technology are impressive, but I think that's the last thing any of us wants to see off the beaten path...

Yes an actual tailgate or similar event yes! In the woods at the campsite not so much. Many overland buit vehicles probably see more tailgating than camping. If I was a tailgater the Trailhunter would be more useful to me, as would all the fridges and awnings people use. The lift wheels and tires do make the Pro4X a good looking 4x4 truck. I was thinking Nissan did the televisions because of the infotainment screen size debate.

 

you seem like the type of person who would love the ford ranger, have u looked into those?

 

I'm in a Porsche rut at the moment. There's no substitute.

 

Yeah the Porsche would be more fun.

 

I have seen videos about them, and so on but I haven't looked at them in person. I dont have wife and kids yet so don't need anything that big. If I were to get it, I would only get it with fat V8
