Trying to finish up this SAS on my 4runner, and I'm attempting to use the front range offroad transmission crossmember. The thing is hitting the floorboard on the passenger side. I've beat that floorboard in a bit but it still hits. I've only heard of having to clearance the floor when clocking the case for more clearance, but im all stock right now. What gives? And recommendations for a different crossmember? The factory crossmember is currently bolted up as well right now. Ive also noticed that the drivetrain on the 4runner seems to sit about 1" lower compared to the Tacoma. The truck will eventually be dual-cased.20170915_154432.jpg 20170915_154440.jpg

I would bet your rubber body mounts are toast and have been flattened out reducing clearances.

Some new rubber or poly one's should fix the issue.

If it's just a little more clearance needed...why don't you grind some material off from the cross member on that corner??

I need about 1/2" more at very least. And then I'm shaving material off of the already thin crossmember. Ive not heard of anyone having this issue with stock xfer cases. Oh well I'll make it work.

Damn, from the pick I didn't realize you needed that much. I thought it was just a little bit, which you could have shaved easily.

Anyway, years ago I installed a 1" body lift on my truck. When it came to the SAS and dealing with the transfer case years later - a big fat Atlas nonetheless - that 1" body lift came very handy and made life easier.

    hockey pucks?

I think there are better options for very little money :D

I don't think there's many people running them single cased, that's probably why you don't see the issue. If it was me, I would be going crazy with the sledge hammer under there and or grinding it to fit.

I forget what SAS thread it was, but someone had to cut and reweld that bracket in order to make it fit.

Personally, I would get rid of that bracket all together. That style of bracket is a good way to brake a case. There is a reason there is only a single tranny mount in the middle, its to allow the drivetrain to pivot under torque load. The triangle is the two motor mounts and the tranny mount. You turned the factory triangle into a square. What pivots better a triangle or a square.

Look it up on Pirate4x4, a lot of broken cases from mounts like that.

I lot of people talk smack about them on Pirate but very few have actually ever had issues with it....Everybody just knows a buddy... Most of the guys with problems are solid mounting the cross member instead of using the supplied bushings from FROR. Brian swears that nobody has reported breakage to him.

My truck had one for years and no issues before I built duals and went to the TG crossmember.

Exactly my point. LOTS of people who assume this or that based off of what they read on pirate, but few with actual experience. I'm the only person who has this issue so far. Its an older fror crossmember (powdercoated), and tgeure technically made for a Tacoma. One of the main readons i cut up a perfectly fine SAS'd Tacoma was to get away from the 3" body lift it had. I built the exo around that so it wasnt worth messing with it.

How do you like the trail gear crossmember? I think i might just built a new crossmember and use the factory bushing until I go to duals. Im just tired of layibg underneath this truck and not wheeling it, lol.

    Thanks everyone for their input.
