Is air tight not water tight?

nope. water exerts much more pressure than air does. especially if you have 100lbs of it pushing against something. thats why a bunch of items have different ratings such as IP65, IP68 etc. theres different levels of resistance to the elements. some can be dust proof and still not even guard against water at all. if you only put a little bit of water (like a cup) and do that water test, that would be a decent test, but to have a whole cooler of water putting pressure on it, i wouldnt expect it to hold that at all.

Well I got both my 45qt coolers. Interesting thing is the box says 40qts from the manufacturer in China. I knew this ahead of time but it's still funny to see. Both of them touch the gasket but both gaskets have a permanent indentation on them from the coolers lip it closes on. I'm guess it will seal up ok but it would be nice if it was a hair thicker. Or maybe it's the correct the thickness but a cheap gasket material? I think it will work ok, which is expected for a $120 cooler.

Fair enough. I was thinking in terms of molecule size, thinking that air is smaller than h2o. Pressure is a different factor, didn't think about that.

yea i know what you mean. i do a lot of stuff with electronics that deal with waterproofing so my mind is always going to the rating scales and the differences.

on a side note, i was at wally world earlier and messed around with ozark trails. they seem a whole lot less tough than these frostys. we'll see how she holds up in the long run though. im not horribly tough on my coolers, so my coleman "xtreme" is still going plenty strong after 9 years or however long ive had it. it just sits there and slides around the bed of the truck all the time. i keep waiting on the bottom to wear through.

Had a handle break on my Coleman and the other ones latches broke, and the cover is on interstate 95 some where.

I almost spent good money on some of the other cooler group buys, but just couldn't justify it. They did get me to research the ozarks, and I feel it's a fair deal. I wish there was a store I could walk in and see all these different coolers to make a fair judgement.

Ordered a 65. If need be, I'll request a new gasket. Thanks John for setting this up.

Appreciate it, wanted a 85, but the 65 will fit under my Tonneau cover perfect.

Is the logo a sticker, a gel emblem, or?

    Would it be easily removed?

Yea its definitely impossible to find them all in one place which really sucks. Im pretty lucky that my coleman has no latches. Our work ones do and we keep replacement latches and hinges for when they inevitably fail. I think ill be plenty happy with this little guy.

Could you also do a measurement inside the 65 above the ridges that would hold the cooler basket so we can nail down which ones will fit? On the site it says 12" W. Mine doesn't arrive until Tuesday.
