Its all trucks, no certain cab config is any faster than another. First i was told 2 months because they can bypass using the harness, now i am told "They are waiting on most of my parts to come in still, probably 4-5 months". Manager also told me that they dont have any trucks, and that he hears the same complaint from everyone, that they need a truck. but he def seemed to not give a shit about it, and wasnt willing to work to get me a truck. Sooo.. im going to go get my truck back, and if it sh**s the bed I'll cross that bridge when i get there, but it wont be pretty.

Myself, my dad, my brother all own 2nd gen tacos.

I'm incredibly anal and wash it ( like actually wash it, top and bottom) regularly and use high quality detailing products.
I touch up areas where the paint wears off.

My brother does so less frequently.

My dad goes to a car wash every once in a while.

The amount of frame rust is:

    Me: none
    Brother: some
    Dad: TONS.

Logic isn't your strong suit is it?

Your basing your argument on a comparison of 3 trucks. One of which is 2 years old, and shouldn't have any rust regardless of how well it's been taken care of.

Disregarding all other data, do you think Toyota would be spending millions on a recall, if the problem was due to "neglect"?

^ end discussion of 'owners fault' right here

and as I has posted...1999 4runner has similar frame and I never washed this thing once, except bird poop on glass that won't come off with wipers. never garaged, and I intentionally go out in snow and ice and the crappiest conditions and run it hard and put it away wet and salty...I still drive this thing as it is the best vehicle ever designed by man or monkey

frame has no rust through yet after 17 winters in Maine and Massachusetts. the hitch assembly has rotted though...a clear example of 'good coating and a proper steel' on frame vs 'cheese paint on flat stock steel' hitch assembly ...all on my 4runner in one place under identical conditions.

Not as much as that zinger of a comment. Yowzaaaaaaaaa.

Sadly it does seem like a huge endeavor to most members here.

The fact that it's only a "cold weather" states recall proves that it's related to salt and the lack of removal of said salt.

It's fun to play the blame game and be the victim but striving to protect one's investment is always virtuous.

    NO. you are wrong again.

    it is this: exactly this.

The fact that it's only a "cold weather" states recall proves that it's related to salt and ---the lack of proper coatings to resist the salt and corrosion for extended periods--.

Toyota would not be losing millions on the frame game if it was owners responsibility. all steel frames will rot, Toyota admits this batch of frames rotted faster than comparable vehicles. period. nothing is owners responsibility. Dana owned up to it because their internal investigation revealed improper procedures in producing the frames and not meeting Toyota specifications.

Nothing is ever the owners responsibility ever. We are all victims.

Ok, how about you show us how you can paint area in between two metal plates with out using liquid paint.
I am willing to make a bet.... :D
We will take two metal plates 1 foot by 1 foot in size, sandwich them together and you can prove to us that you can paint area where two metal plates are touching each other with out using liquid paint.
    Care for a bet ?

Logic, and facts bead up, and roll off this guy like a Tacoma that's been washed regularly with high quality detailing products, by an incredibly anal owner.

    I give up.
Never wash it. Wait for the new frame.

Coincidentally I was with my buddy today and his 06 has a nice looking frame. Ya know, he must be one of those anal guys who washes his truck.

You should have given up after the first douchey post you made. You know you're wrong, and everyone here knows you're wrong.

You talk about facts. The fact are these:

    1. Toyota has issued a recall on frames in cold weather states.

    2. Frames that have no perforations get coated with CRC.

    3. Frames with any perforations get a frame replacement.

You think the reason the frames that need replacement are due to "neglect".

That's called an opinion. And as baseless as that is, you're entitled to it.

Again, the mere fact that both the frame manufacturer, and Toyota has admitted that the problem was due to improper procedures during the manufacturing process, and are both shelling out millions has been good enough for everyone but you. Honestly buddy, don't you think if they could blame this on owner neglect, and save all that money they would? It must be pretty concrete as far as both of those parties are concerned.

BTW, It doesn't sound like your "buddy" (the quotation marks indicate I think you're making him up) has been in to get his inspection yet, otherwise he would have had the sauce applied to his frame, or be waiting for a replacement like the rest of us. He may be in for a surprise.
My frame looked pretty good for a 10 year old truck (mostly small areas of surface rust here, and there), except in the area of the cats where the perforations show up on just about every frame that needs replacement.

I've been under the truck a number of times. No perforation. He's blue Ox on this forum. Ask him yourself.

And then try washing your new frame :)

If states without salt have no recalls, it's logical to conclude that washing off said salt will correct the issue.

I'm not denying that the manufacturing process is flawed. Toyota frames rust. They always did. Come to think of it, so did the beds and doors.

You know how I've combatted this issue on both Toyota trucks I've owned? Washing them.

Toyotas rust. Always did. Always will.

Time to stop entertaining this guy and let him think what he thinks.

Moving on...... Who here has a loaner and who is still driving their trucks? Anyone heard of someone's frame snapping while waiting for a new one?

Brought my truck in after noticing the driver rear leaf spring was lookin all wonky.

I got the letter in the mail a few weeks prior, called a local dealership Friday afternoon, explained the issue the woman kept insisting there are no parts currently. The recall letter was interim and I have to wait for a final letter. Would not forward me to anyone else just kept insisting there were no parts and could offer no other solutions.

Anyway, called another dealer, about 15min away and they said bring it by 8AM Monday morning. After taking my info they informed me about the frame recall as well and said they would inspect both.

Got a call around 3:45pm saying inspection is complete, the frame will need to be replaced but there is about a 1month waiting period. They also claimed the truck is safe to drive, even with the leaf springs looking the way they do, until they contact me again.

So yeah, bottom line, supposedly a month wait for me till parts get in for leafspring and frame, trucks allegedly still safe to drive, just gotta be patient I guess. I may or may not have to carry loads in here soon, I asked the Rep on the phone about the spring and said I may have to haul 2000LBs he said the truck should be fine.

    Any thoughts?

That is 100% unsafe as pictured.

    Leaf spring is snapped.

Of course! It definitely is not safe.

I am just trying to figure out why they said it was safe and that I could pick it up today, drive, and just wait for information regarding the frame.
