Here are some very crude photo shoped photos I did. I still think it would look better in the real truck. I'm really interested in finding the perfect look. I have a 2016 black trd off road on order and I don't care for the stock grill. I put a mesh kit in from custom car grills on my 2015 tacoma and it made the truck!

Are you able to emboss or press anything into this mesh? I was thinking adding one or two horizontal lines or "V's" across the grill. I prefer simple. I'm not crazy about those tundra grills. I know it would add complexity to the whole thing... Just an idea.

If you can get close to that "trd pro" look you mentioned here, I would order one asap! Keep us posted on your progress.

Put the centre bar with "TOYOTA" on it from the TRD Pros and that could look really good!

I saw this color combo while searching online it looks ok. I'd still prefer something from cutom car grills that said Toyota like the mock up above instead of that goofy symbol.

I have one more mesh style I'm wanting to try, with a very bold set of lettering to go with it.

While I have no issue running the same type of mesh as I've done for the past generations (slots and circles), I was hoping to bring some fresh mesh choices to market. The 4th prototype will be a mesh that was occasionally requested for the 12-15's, and I hope to incorporate a slightly different take on the lettering than before. It'll be a love or hate type design.

I'll get to work on a center bar as soon as I get a feel for the mesh type(s) people are looking for the most, and I want to give it one more shot. Thus far it seems like the 1/4"circle hole mesh is the one that people have gravitated to the most, with the slotted mesh just behind it and the woven mesh a distant 3rd.

Great! I can't wait to see them. Thanks for being one of the first people to tackle the ugly grill problem. Lol

Ah, I forgot to reply about the embossing. In general, it would probably require a thinner mesh for me to accomplish that. I don't have a process that would emboss the 14 gauge aluminum I'm currently using. We've used paint stencils in the past as an alternate lettering technique, I might give that a shot at some point.

Sounds good. I was initially not talking about the letters. Not really my thing. I was thinking more along the lines of just some horizontal lines pressed in to break it up some. My ideal setup would be two lines in thirds with the Toyota symbol in the center. Not sure if you can visualize what I am talking about.

Nice doesn't look too bad. I was considering this but I don't know how scrubbing bugs off it would go. Did the plasti dip stick to all the narrow grill links pretty good? And did you remove the grill to do it.

I taped the hell out of it and sprayed 5 coats. The plasti dip stuck to everything nicely. I can still hit it with a pressure washer to knock off the bugs, but i do hold the nozzle back a bit farther than i would otherwise. So far im really happy with it. But its just a cheap fix till i can find a good aftermarket grill. I just couldnt hardly stand all that chrome.IMG_20151009_181456691.jpg

Ah gotcha. Yeah like you said I can't stand that crome. Looks like a good temporary fix until a better looking grill can be designed.

Disclaimer: I know this one is a long shot, but the mesh used here is the most requested mesh for a custom cut on the 05-11 and 12-15 Tacomas outside of the styles we normally stock. Also, we've got requests in the past for just "taco" lettering. By no means is the most popular configuration we've done before, it's probably a love it or hate it setup.

Personally, I think the lettering can work on the slotted and circle hole mesh. The mesh in picture here (Perf GT), I suspect is just too wide open for this truck.
    -----------------------------------
Side Note: One disturbing issue I noticed after installing only 6 of these is that each OEM replacement bezel (from Toyota) is a little different. The challenging part on my end is to make a template that can accommodate all the subtleties while working within a VERY small margin for error. Specifically it's the top edge that has problems, some are arched just a pinch more than others. In addition to that, the tabs to the left and right of the top center are sometimes bulged out (sometimes the left, sometimes the right, and sometimes both). Thankfully, when they are snapped in the grill shell, the very small imperfections are less noticeable. Most of the issues would not be noticed by the average owner but this is my PSA on it.

Current pre-orders are shipping Monday. Hoping to receive back installed pictures soon.
