I've still got the prototype up for grabs at a slightly discounted rate if you can come through installed pics.

Yup, I agree. There's a few challenges with it, but I'll look into deeper soon and see how viable it'll be on my end.

Tried a different style mesh (1/4" circles) today. Mocked it up with letters and a claw type spike. The front view doesn't do the claws justice, they are much more pronounced from the side. I should have production parts done soon. I'll try another mesh style out next week. Still looking for a test truck for pics of the original prototype.

I'd love to get my hands on one. Are you selling the prototypes? I'm in Seattle, not sure how to get a hold of one of these.

Really like the new mesh, letters look great. Are the the spikes optional. Will you be able to mix and match?

I believe the original one just sold before you posted. This 1/4" hole one is up for grabs. The spikes are installed, but the lettering is not and can be changed if needed. If interested, just PM me.

I'm hoping so, but I'm not sure it'll happen soon. I've tried a few approaches, I know the Goop is a big turn off for a lot of people. I don't like it either, but it works.

The reason I got the spikes originally was use them on the bezel, then have the screw with a washer on the back of the spike hold the mesh in. This method does work, but over time I think there would be structural issues with the bezel. It's is relatively fragile, and there's concerns with over-tightening. Long term, I don't see that being the right solution with more concerns on the bezel becoming fragile later down the road. Also, it would take a lot more time and skill from the end user to get the spacing and alignment of the holes to be right vs the goop method (which is somewhat fool proof).

I also tried 3M tape, which held up very well. Again, long term viability was the concern there too. It didn't effectively close any gaps either.

There was also an area where I was trying to pinch the mesh between the bezel and the factory grill shell. That would have worked of the bezel wasn't sticking out so far.

There's likely a good solution out there, and maybe the studs/spikes on the bezel and drilling through is the right one. My philosophy over the years has been to try to keep the products as simple & cost effective as I can while looking good. While the Goop is less than ideal, it works well & is cost effective.

Spikes will be optional, but can only effectively be used on that specific 1/4" hole mesh. I haven't used them in the past, and I'm curious about long term wear. A lot of them out there are steel and will rust quickly (at least in my area of Michigan), the ones I'm using are a nickel plated zinc alloy. They are quite a bit more expensive than the steel version, but the durability is still unknown on them.

Interested to see how these look (done), as others have said some breaking up may need to take place for it to not look odd, such as the Pro grill etc as discussed. I applaud you being the first to tackle this as it is an eye sore and making such products will really help!!

Would you be able to make honeycomb pattern grills instead of the 1/4 circle?

Yes, absolutely. I have a 1/4" honeycomb mesh that would useable. It would be extremely see-through though.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think of it from that aspect.
Excited to see what other styles you have in the works!

I like the new design, but without the spikes! I don't mind the goop, but as I'm not the most handy person in the world, I'd probably spend the extra money and order the completed and assembled product from you. Then I can just have my dealer install it (assuming it is a simple swap install and doesn't require any modifications to anything).

That last point is important as I always lease my vehicles and don't always buy them after the lease. I love to modify my cars, but anything I modify must be able to be returned to stock easily, so no cutting or drilling.

Yes it's a simple install for the all-in-one bezel. Once the factory grill is off the truck, it's a matter of 8 screws and a few tabs that need to be pushed out and then push the new bezel in and reinstall the screws. No cutting or drilling.

If you wanted to return it to stock, you'd need to keep around the inner core that's removed and also need a new bezel which is $114 in black or $171 in chrome. You could offset the cost of the oem bezel by reselling the used completed mesh bezel.

I usually attach the letters with Goop. I know some people have attached them in the past with 3M tape, though my results with that method have been mixed.

We explored getting them machined out with a screw hole on the back. They didn't pan out, so it was scrapped for now. Also, tried to weld a threaded rod on the back of letters, but it also didn't work out well.

Pricing is likely going to break down like this:

$70 unpainted - Precut & Prebent Mesh Only
$80 powder coat Black (flat or gloss) - Precut & Prebent Mesh Only
+$200 pre-mounted on Black Bezel or +$270 pre-mounted on Chrome Bezel
    +$40 for (6) loose 3.6" Letters (your choice of A,C,M,O,T or Y)
+$50 for 18-20 loose claw spikes

Still a potential the mesh only prices will drop a pinch later down the road. Right now, they are all being refined to a perfect fit by hand and it's taking a lot of labor. If I can eliminate the need to hand test fit each one, I'll pass the savings along. Spike prices may fluctuate up or down depending on demand and whether I can find them in larger bulk. Letter and Pre-Mount prices are likely set. Prices above don't include shipping.

TacomaWorld discount to either help with mesh cost or shipping cost is a strong possibility.
