Unless I am missing something obvious here, I can't figure out how to reach these holes with the bracket. It seems like the plastic is in the way? No one else looks like they're having this issue so I feel like I'm doing something wrong here..

It is possible that something is different with your truck but I have not heard of any difference in the front bumpers of the 3rd GEN to this point. Here is a picture of the same area that another customer posted in this thread:

This should illustrate exactly how the bracket is supposed to mount. In the pictures you sent there are not any bolts in the holes that the bracket needs to mount to. Did you already take them out? If so then they would need to be replaced then the bracket should mount up right in that space. I have had a customer before that was missing those bolts for some reason but once he replaced them the bracket mounted up with no problem. Make sense? Or am I not understanding correctly?

I had taken them out haha. It just seems like everyone else's is flush with the bumper skirt whereas mine is up higher/too close to where the skirt is attached. I'll be trying again tomorrow and will report back..

Update: here's a photo with the bracket in picture and one of me pushing the plastic down in hopes to get closer. Honestly I think I'm just going to buy some longer bolts to close the gap. I guess I bought the one truck with higher bumper anchors If it matters, it's a 2020 TRD Sport but I thought everything was the same as far as stock bumper dimensions (albeit a different color).

First, let me apologize as although I am not sure exactly what is going on, I am sure you are frustrated with the process so far. I have not had any reports of fitment issues on a specific model so I have no specific information that says that a 2020 Sport is likely not to fit. I am curious as to what the front of your truck looks like. Can you send along a picture of the entire front end so I can compare what your bumper looks like to others that have posted pictures in the thread?

I have sent out many of these brackets and the process of making them is the same. The first upright bracket is carefully matched to a template and then the second is bent to match the first so that a matching pair is always sent out. Without going into a ton of specific detail, the process makes it near impossible to not produce a bracket that is pretty much identical to ones that have been sold before. The pictures you send do not appear to show any damage from shipping and that end portion of the bracket would have to have some pretty serious abuse to cause any damage.

It looks like the plastic piece is sitting just a bit further back on your truck then where it appears on others customers trucks. Check out this picture from the thread that another customer posted:

Regardless, that does not solve your problem so lets see if we can figure out a fix. Here are a couple suggestions. I am not sure if that bumper cover slides forward at all. Maybe there is a little play that will allow it to slide forward enough to attach the bracket flat against the metal bumper support. Another idea would be to trim the plastic piece ever so slightly so that the bracket can sit flush. The area that would be trimmed should be completely invisible to anyone looking. In fact, the bumper cover already juts in there just a bit but a 2 inch long wide area about a 1/4 inch deep with the plastic removed should not show up at all. If it were me, that is what I would probably do.

But reality is that you probably purchased the bracket because it was supposed to be plug and play with no modifications necessary. That I certainly understand. So another choice would be to insert a couple flat washers between the bracket and the mounting point in order to take up the gap. This would work fine for the purpose of mounting but it might make it necessary to bend the bracket arms slightly to get the bracket to conform close to the bumper. I cannot say if this will work fine or not as I have never seen it tried and do not know how it would look and function.

Another option would be to heat the end of the bracket and to use a sledge and a flat surface to mostly pound out that first bend. Doing that and using washers would probably make it so you did not need to bend the arms of the bracket and most likely the bracket would fit as originally designed.

Another option is that I could design you a specific bracket that did not have that first bend in it and I could also provide a few aluminum spacers to allow the bracket to fit by just bolting it up with no modifications. In fact, that was what I originally considered doing for the design but I opted for the first relief bend rather than spacers as the end result was the same but with less moving parts and less complication for me in making the bracket and the customer in mounting it.

And finally, if everything is just too much of a pain, you can send the bracket back, I will pay for shipping it to me, and I can refund your money. Your satisfaction is my primary concern. If you lived closer then I would have you stop by and I would figure out what was going on and make some modification so that you would have a bracket that would fit. But living several states apart does not make that realistic, especially during a pandemic with restrictions on travel!

Please let me know your thoughts.

Figured I should throw you an update -- I went out and bought some longer 6mm screws and a couple ~.25" bolt spacers. I used two on each. After finally having everything I needed, installation took all of 5 minutes haha.. The plate is now on and I'm finally street legal in MA! Your bracket looks 400x better than having the drill-on mount especially after a couple coats of black. It's still curious that my bumper is apparently bolted on higher than everyone else but, hey, we got it! Thanks again and I'll be sure to send anyone in need of a front Tacoma plate your way.

Very glad to hear that it was a relatively easy fix. I will be curious to see if the next customer who has a TRD Sport has a similar issue. The TRD Off Road does not have the same problem as a few recent owners have not reported any problems. If the Sport has changed the bumper slightly then I will need to design a solution. Thanks for being so willing to work to solve the problem!

Unfortunately, no. I only sell the brackets in bare aluminum. It is scuffed up so after cleaning it is ready to be painted.
